Some information regarding the recent unprogress of the Vong Invaders mod. And plans for future, recent future.

Posted by on

A rather obvious question arises: Why have we (like you: fans/readers/supporters/random visitors) seen literally no progress in the recent months?!

Well, the answer isn´t that complicated - it´s mainly because of loss of motivation. Nevertheless, this reason should be divided into more sub-explanations.
It was originally intended to make a huge step forward during the summer holidays. However, I somehow lost the "drive", the will to create. Instead of making new UVies, coding etc. I moved from this productive side to consumerism (read playing games).
Enpremi started numerous own projects so he couldn´t really devote himself to this project. On the other hand he improved drastically, so that he can now teach even such icons of EaW modding like Burntstrobe...
But seduction to consumerism and limited support from texturer weren´t the only causes of my lost of motivation. The next issue were numerous game bugs I had to face and somehow, usually unsuccessfully, solve. And facing problems you can´t solve (you discover this only after many hours of pointless testing) is extremely frustrating, since it forces you to abandon your visions or find a complicated and overall worse walk-around...
Beside of this I do not want to show unfinished work on this official page...

So what about future of the mod?

We still do intend to release the space version of the mod asap. What is the time horizon of "asap" depends on numerous factors: namely motivation, encountering of bugs, free time, luck... You can check the progress here.
In the near future we should finish these units: Matalok (now issues with the crippling worm ability), Advanced scout ship (texture), Clustership (now issues with tentacles animation), Assault Version of Miid Ro´ik (texture).
I´m also finishing a template .xml file for all Vong units, which should make future work faster, though needs more testing (error in this file would duplicate into all other Vong files).
We would also like to present you the Vong space station in the near future.

Is there a way I could help you?

Of course... Inspiring comments are welcome, constructive criticism can´t hurt neither. I would also like to speak to someone experienced with editing Lightningeffecttypes.xml...

Regards,
Seregruth

Take your time. Modding is a great and rewarding hobby, but like any other hobby, there is nothing worse than forcing yourself to do it.
If you don't feel like it take a break and sooner than you think you can't wait to continue again.

I agree totally, modding often merges the boundary between a hobby and a chore...

You said it yourself in the first news that the main reason for leaving the old team is that so you can have more motivation, but here you say you actually lost motivation.

Overall you shouldn't have left the old team...

I feel somehow tempted to justify our behavior by pointing out that in the meantime (i.e. after leaving Shapers and losing motivation again) we have made a significant progress towards actually releasing the mod.

One curious question. What were you playing the past summer?

Nothing new. It is difficult to finish a mod when you do not play it, you do not like really it or it is not fun really. These are probably the main premises for a mod.

My recomendation is this, take your time and check if you like play it as it will be. If you want make it, just by the glory, better do not finish it because at the end, probably you will not finish it because you do not like play it.

For end, if you do not like play just with the Vongs, you can join it easily with other mod as my mod, by example.
