A dev-diary style news, to let you know of our progress so far with the next version of Unification!

Posted by on

Greetings and happy holidays everyone!

As we promised, today we will begin a series of dev-updates,as we are approaching the release, where we can explain you in more detail what we are working on and offering.

https://media.moddb.com/images/articles/1/290/289175/auto/Unification_emblem.png

Α little foreword.

The Unification mods acts as foremost the absolute combiner mod of all of the race mods our team has made(and not only). All of the mods are combined seemingly, without any loss in stability and with preserving their quality. However, since we have noticed installing all these mods together may be a bit troublesome,we have taken the next step into combining all into one neat package with easy Installation.
However,as you may have noticed if you have played the released public beta, the vanilla races look extremely outdated compared to the modded races we offer.Which brings us to the

Vanilla race rework
And thus began our work upon updating the vanilla races(on which, the current first dev post will focus upon).Firstly visually updating their units and then, expanding upon adding some proper additions to both their unit roster and weapon choices.
Some, obviously needing it more than others.
The first we did were the Space Marines/Chaos Space Marines, which admittedly was the most easy and where the most complete of all races.
So.you can already expected how they will work and look like. But they have their surprises as well that will have to wait for a bit more for them. ;)

https://media.moddb.com/images/articles/1/290/289175/auto/20201205180329_1.jpg

(Pictured:Conversion Beamer Tactics(CBT) properly applied.)

The Sisters of Battle were the next we finished.Given one of the main race mods included are the Witch Hunters, which are more accurate to the lore and the style of the current Edition, the vanilla Sisters will retain their vanilla mechanics,so as the races do not overlap each other. However, the biggest challenge was to fix Iron Lore's buggy models and updating their visuals.Which as you may have seen already,we believe you will be satisfied.

https://media.moddb.com/images/articles/1/290/289175/auto/Vindictor.jpg(A Vindictor(Pious Vorne-new hero unit) burning some ''treasonous heretics''.)

The Aeldari:
Both the Craftworld Eldar and the Dark Eldar where in a tough spot,as their 3D department was vastly less developed and mostly left untouched by the modding community.Additionally,we all know of how unfinished the Dark Eldar are in the vanilla game.hence why both races have received a bigger effort in their rework.

(Pictured from top to bottom:
-Craftworld Eldar units in battle.
-Wraithknight vs Emperor's Children forces.
-Trueborn Kabalite Warriors.
-The Voidraven Bomber-the tier 1 titan unit for the Dark Eldar.)
Here,it is our duty to especially thank our beloved friend Anfisa for the ingenious shader idea for the vanilla Dark Eldar textures which is on what the rest of the textures of the custom units have also being reworked to preserve consistency.
(Please, feel free to check the rest of the great work of Anfisa has made if you haven't already. :D )

T'au Empire
Images equal to hundred words as the saying goes.

Orks

The Orks may seem simple but they have some tricks that were less amusing to code as you may expect. But as brother Gambit says, the result is more than rewarding.
Examples are the Weirdboy, who with his abilities, can turn the tide of the battle if used properly and cunningly and the Lifta Droppa of the Stompa, which actually lifts units in the air!

Imperial Guard
The Imperials is the latest race we have finished just recently, with only some small things to adjust remaining. And we believe,we finally did them justice.
To keep you teased, more images of them will be released in the upcoming days. :3
And for a small sneak preview,we leave the following image for your consideration:

https://media.moddb.com/images/articles/1/290/289175/auto/Guard_Ubers.jpg

And with them done,we can finally focus and finish the last big one goal of ours, the Necrons.
Unfortunately, images will be released at a later time, when we have them as finished and polished as we want them to be.We believe the Necrons deserve it the most.
But,I can neither confirm or deny that a certain kleptomaniac Overlord will make his debut...

And with that,I would like to move to describe a bit the rest of our mechanics we are implementing in the upcoming version. While more in-detail blogs will be made,we believe it is proper to clear some things up first and foremost.

Titans
Titans is a highly anticipated mechanic of our mod, which indeed has taken much effort and caution to be coded properly. The reason behind the decision of introducing Titan units to all vanilla races is not because we wish to copy other fellow big mods(hence why we are not using any additional resource system) but rather,to give a fighting chance to these races,as many of the modded races we are adding, have their own titan units(examples are the RAGE mod with its Banelord Titan and the Emperor's Children with its own titanic units, like the Questor and the Renegade Knight).
Our goal is to introduce titans in tier levels, with tier 1 level, being the Warhound level.Which will be the only tier this version will have fully coded and implemented. That way,the Community can give us feedback and determine how we should proceed with the rest of the tiers in later versions of Unification(we never said this will be the only one version mind you).

(Pictured, the Warhound Titan, created by brother Joazzz for use in Unification mod and the Stormsurge, made by brother FragJacker.)

New game modes
One of the main ''points'' of Unification, are its new game modes.
You may have already got a taste of the Survival game mode, which now has been expanded and finalised to support all available races. Many in fact have some interesting scenarios to spice up the battle, both in your and against your favour as the defendant(And the possibility to even have a player as the attacker in multiplayer!)
The next version will also mark the introduction of Last Stand.Akin to DOW2,you may select between either a squad of different types of unit specialists or a hero from the selected race and customize their wargear and fight in arena style special maps against enemy waves your to final stand(like in DOW2,indeed there is an endgoal-which for now,we have it at 20 waves).
Just as the introduction message to our main page specifies,Kill-team returns as a game mode, where with one squad only, you fight for your survival.Capturing strategic posts gives resources which allow you to reinforce your squad.

Campaign
The campaign also plays a significant role in Unification. It fully supports all new additions and reworks seemingly, providing a new fresh look on the Karauva campaign. We aim in later versions to add even the custom races into the fray or even making custom campaigns,if time and our powers permit of course.
Needless to say,the Strongholds mod,as a sub-mod of Unification,has been updated accordingly.

Modularity
Unification remains fully modular.Even races that may no be included in the package due to various reasons, can still be played through it if wished(we will release instructions on how to add your own races with the release).Furthermore, all additions to the vanilla races and the titans are fully optional. So,you may turn them off easily before a match if you wish and play in pure vanilla fashion.(Please note, this also applies to the campaign through a clever code switch Gambit has created in association with FragJacker.)Lastly,a plethora of win conditions allow you to spice up and customize as you seem fit. Here,it should be noted that the 4gb(LAA patch) will be included in the package for the sake of convenience.

Honourable mention, the Grey Knights branch of the Inquisition Daemonhunt mod

Due to popular request, the new units in GK have been remade to be in consistent style of the Grey Knights in the Inquisitorial Branch.Which will be released alongisde the next version.

Roadmap:
We currently are finishing up the last bits of Imperial Guard and moving on to the Necrons. After that, there will be a period of testing and preparing for release.Unfortunately, due to the amount of work this requires,we won't be able to release during the Christmas celebrations as we initially hoped. However,we are confident we will be able to release within January 2021.We apologize again for this inconvenience. At that time, all the other race mods that have received updates will be released both as part of Unification and as standalone. Our promise is to provide you with a complete and well made experience and will try our best to keep it that way.We would also like to inform you that more dev updates and videos on our channel are coming,so stay tuned!

To conclude,we would like to deeply thank you all for your support during all this time and for making us achieve a place in top100!If you believe our work is worth while, please consider voting for us in top10!

We all hope the best to you during these difficult times and happy and joyful holidays to you and your beloved ones!We thank you again for staying with us.if you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments and we will try to answer as well as we can.

-The Unification mod dev team.

You don't know how happy I am to see the Shadowsword get a proper texture uv map after so long. It have always look bad with that empty hole where the demolisher cannon used to be and unfinished main gun barrel in many mods for more than 10 years. Praise Kek!

How about Ragnarok Tank?

And I added a little upgrade option for the main cannon.
A cannon which can shoot shells that produce quakes. :VV

It is a good choice to add titan like units like that through tiers instead of relic points. In my opinion, this mod will have already big battles with titans. I think if you want to add more titan types and more powerful make a new game mode where super vehicles and titan class units are the main show of that match otherwise I think only with this tier 1 will be more than enough and keeps all other units relevant instead who was the biggest gun around.

Other that small suggestion I will be around to download that baby when its available and give loads of feedback hahaha. Merry christmas to the developer team!

I was referring to Dark_one's thoughts in the original post
about the potential danger of higher tier titans making the ordinary units irrelevant, or turning the game into a constant titan race. As well as the idea of a separate gamemode/wincondition to mitigate this.

Looking at it now I see that is perhaps a little unclear whether I was referring to the original post or your banter :)

Outstanding work like always brothers! You absolutely deserve to get to the Top10 of the MOTY 2020 or even to the Top3. Personally, I would even give you on the first place, since the amount of work, which was done on the Unification, and the other races is insane!

Thou, it's a pity to hear about the release delay. However, it's way better to wait, since even if the bugs can be fine, for some people, I always prefer a bug free game/mod over a buggy one.

It is a titanic work after all if I may say so.

Yes, I understand that, since balancing all of those fractions, does take a lot of time. Plus, since we probably never get a better Warhammer 40k game, than the Dawn of War, and more fractions than the Unification, I can easily wait some time more.

Once this version is out,the sky is the limit honestly.
Thanks to the modularity of Unification,it is extremely easy to add brand new custom races later on.No need for weird adjustments or rebalance.
There are already plans for example about the AdMech rremake, the Ultramarines, the Death Guard and more.
And even Angry Marine introduction is in the talks, once it is more streamlined.

Reply Good karma+4 votes

Those are amazing news, and I'm looking forward to the Ultramarines and Death Guard!

Isn't the Angry Marine a meme mod?

And by AdMech Remake you mean the Adeptus Mechanicus?

Also, I really hope, that there will be the Death Korps of Krieg, one day.

-Yes.
-Yes,but made by one of us(Cap Jojo).Just saying it is possible to be done but after a big work.
-Yes.Adeptus Mechanicus.Essentially,update the Explorators.

What do you mean by separated? All of our race mods are already unique stand-alones that can combine under unification.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

I thought the faction mods that were balanced with each other would be included in some sort of all in one package, while the mods that still needed some work wouldn't be until they were worked on.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

That is what we will do.
We can include the BA(we are still considering it),as it is pretty stable but we would like to properly rework it once time allows it.

ALL of them get new stuff - not only fixes!

And do not forget the new RAGE release (which is AWESOME thanks to brother I_Chample), and of course...
...TYRANIDS!!
There will most possibly be a release of this long-awaited mod as well :)
Thanks to brother Miros, and the Tyranids team :)

On a side note, what are those 6 space marines armed with power swords and capes? I tought it was the force commander with an helmet, but then I noticed the other 5.

Oh,that is his Honour Guard.
Since the Grey Knights are their own race now,the vanilla squad is replaced with a more fluffy version.
The reason was more technical,as we can't have Grey Knights as part of the normal SM fight their own kin.
Not to mention, the GK are supposed to be very secretive, not meant to be as honour guard to a random Space Marine Chapter.
But the campaign reinforcement, since it is explained in its story, instead received a custom GK model instead.

Do scouts still have flamer and plasma? I know that in the codex they don't have those weapons and the new marine races don't use them, but it's a part of vanilla's legacy. Stealth plasma gun teams are too good to be gone.

Since deathwatch veterans replaced greyknights when using inquisition mod, and now replaced by honor guards. It can only means one thing. Nice.

By codex I meant the book as Scout can't take plasma. But yeah I know the model used in FOK mod don't have them, cause they tried to to followed the book.

Great to hear that this is a new one. The tactical marine still has knife?
