Post news Report RSS New UT40K build features BF40K models

BF40K models now appear in UT40K's June 2010 build. A big thank you to Geodave.

Posted by on

There is a new build of UT40K downloadable from ModDB featuring 3 of the BF40K assets to show the start of the merger. The IG Leman Russ Battle Tank, Tau Piranha and Tau Firewarrior.

The mod installs and runs independently. You only need to meet the system requirements to play Unreal Tornament 3.

UT40K is in need of Unreal Development Kit modder support. If you can please step forward and volunteer we would be greatful.

If any of you have comments, complements or complaints, please explain why. Constructive statements are all that helps to provide useful feedback.
I tried everything I could to try any get the mod going again the merger was a last resort.
UT40K is in it's early stages and needs a lot of work to turn it from something that plays like UT3 at the moment to the direction Geodav and I want to take it in.

Well since you deleted my post, ill explain... you made the wrong decision because with the mod you merged yours,is just terrible. Believe me,i want warhammer mods on other games more than you do,but that mod isnt good at all, those guys are adding few scripts every month, and from what iv seen, everything looks bad, they even don't have their own models. Well good luck anyways...

ok i don't know what your problem is, but the models in UT40k belong to us and always have. If you want to play mods then i suggest you start learning how its done. If you think that we just add a few scripts every month then put your money where your mouth is, and do what we do, just download UDK and go for it, and we'll see what you can produce by june 1st

Hi Luka,

Thank you for explaining this time.

We are trying to drum up more support from other modders to help assist. The UDK has vast potential for creating all sorts of games.

Everything looks bad? Care to explain further?

If you were in my position what would have you done?

I made pleas out to the community for help yet no-one came to BF40K's aid.
I tried to release the BF40K-BF2 alpha to generate modder support but then had objection from the sound devs after consultation with ex devs.

3 years of BF40K artistic assets for Imperial Guard, Tau and incomplete Space Marines with most of the sound effects completed. Seeing it go to waste would of been terrible.

This move has meant sacrificing useful features of the BF engine. Commander mode, squad system and native VOIP.

My next step was to assess various 40K mods that were for engines that suit FPS infantry/vehicular combat. I was looking for mods that had active alpha/beta builds.

There are few.

Exterminateous - Source is not great for vehicles.

WH40K conversion - Fallout 3 lacking multiplayer and driveable vehicles in the standard game.

UT40K's Geodave has demonstrated publically available working builds.
Geodav only has about 3 hours a day to spend on coding.

I was only finally convinced to switch when I saw the AFF mod which is similar to BF.

Moddb.com

Currently Geodav is working on getting the content imported and a working game menu that separates the factions.

There has been a recent update to UDK that permits us to use Adobe flash to create our own menus and interface for the player. Far more flexible than BF.

The last accusation about stolen models on UT40K is quite offensive.
UT40K is a well established mod and have had artists on it for years.

I believe you owe UT40K an apology.
Think carefully before posting outrageous accusations next time.

I dont understand... did anyone say something about "stealing" models? well i didnt, because there are other ways to obtain models, and then you can simply give credits to creators. I dont know what "accusations" i made,i just critisized the mod,and i own nothing to UT40K.

To quote your earlier post "they even don't have their own models".

Reading that you can understand how I interpreted that as an accusation of theft.
From what I can see in Geodav's gallery, he has credited the UT40K artists most of the time. There are a couple where he has forgotten to credit the artist in the notes. This probably was not intentional. I will give him a heads up on this tonight.
In the BF40K moddb gallery and on the main website I always make sure to add the artist.

I wasnt talking about adding credits,or the fact that he forgot something... I was talking about content of the mod, that they should make it instead of taking from other mods for example. Thats makes the mod original and more enjoyable. Anyways i dont care what they do to their mod...

I like that this merger happened, will give Geodav lots of stuff that he really needs, instead of forgetting mod assets that existed.
The part of development I disagree with, is that there really is no clear direction beyond "throw every 40k weapon, race and creature into mod, see what happens". But hey, I bet you guys got a plan somehow.

A shame and something quite neat at the same time.
I feel that BF would probably have provided a better platform for squad based army wide bombat with the VOIP, Commander and squad system.
But we shall see where UT40K heads.
