Just finished adding new health system inspired by GDC talk of Tyriq Plummer. I divided the player spaceship to three main components, radar(nose), engines and cannons.
When a component damaged, the player will suffer from three types of penalties:
- Engines - Control of the spaceship will be harder.
- Cannons - Fire rate of all weapons will be slower.
- Radar(Nose) - Player view field will decrease.
If one of the components reach 0% the player spaceship will blow up!
I hope that this will increase player cautious from getting hit by enemies bullets or asteroids, but also give them the chance to recover and keep playing the level to the end.
