Music of Althas
Hello, we're back with another update for you, this time giving you a look at the music for Althas. We've had our new composer, Arvin Fekri, working on crafting a distinct sound for Althas and he's created some great pieces.
First we have a general theme for Althas overall, currently planned as the main theme for the overall Althas project.
Next up is a theme for Thenodar specifically, the first region of Althas we are developing. As a region divided between more urbanized lowlands and a more rustic, traditional highland, we wanted to have a blend of instruments that helped represent these two sides to the region's culture.
Next we have a track crafted for towns, specifically Bordrima. This song and ones like it will play in towns and villages outside the three major cities of Thingstów, Arísan, and Múthrand. We'll also leave you with a small snippet of work in progress music, as a taste of what's to come.
You can find more of Arvin's work over at his SoundCloud: M.soundcloud.com
Hope you've enjoyed this peek at the music side of things, stay tuned for more updates about Althas in the weeks to come.
Sounds awesome! One thing I'd be careful off is any potential repetitiveness or annoyance that can only really be tested with hours upon hours of listening during gameplay. Although I'm also assuming that these will all be mixed in engine and not just as they are here.
Yeah, we're taking the mix approach rather than the loop approach. Looping music is really hard to do so while I enjoy that myself - Xenoblade 1 and 2 have dynamite looping field music - we decided it best to go in a different direction.
Looping music also tends to become a more assertive aspect of your presentation, which fundamentally changes the atmosphere of the game. Not necessarily making it less immersive, but altering the feel of the immersion, if that makes sense.
Amazing music!
Thank you for the compliment! :)
I'm so glad to see this game is not dead ! I've been following the team since before The Lays of Althas, so I was kind of worried for all the good people working on it.
Yep, still plugging away :)
