Firearms: Source Community! Last news update we mentioned we are releasing this year, and we are sticking to it! For some exciting news, we would like to let you all know Firearms: Source is now running on the Orange Box engine, thanks to our new programmer Mazor; a familiar face from the original Firearms. Now we will be able to take advantage of everything the Source engine has to offer for future release candidates. You may be wondering, "why did you do an Orange Box port now?" Well, unfortunately we had some really deep rooted bugs that were neglected whole new features were implemented, making the code very hard to debug and clean up. The more and more we examined the issue, the more compelling the argument became for moving to the Orange Box engine. So, as said before, we will still be able to stick to our release schedule because thankfully, we already have the game balance down for what we would like to be released with RC1, so its as simple as moving the functioning clean code over, optimizing old code, and leaving behind the bugs. So as a reward for your patience, we have some new renders of our M18A1 Claymore and Gerber Gator Machete, and an updated atmosphere for PS_Snowstorm, as well as a newly updated ModDB page with the a customized FAS theme.
Firearms on Half-Life wouldn't be what it was without the M18A1 Claymore Antipersonnel Mine. It was one of the defining weapons that set it apart from other Half-Life mods, really showing its true military colors. For these reasons, we felt it absolutely necessary to include it in Firearms: Source. If you are an FA veteran, then you should remember how it functions, but for those new to the mod or in need of a refresher, you can check out the Pro-Tip section of the Firearms Source Manual for the fiendish particulars. The Firearms: Source M18A1 Claymore model was textured by Racer445. We also have the Gerber Patrol Machete, which is a new addition to the Firearms arsenal. We decided that one of the areas that seemed to get very little attention in the original Firearms was a wider range of melee weapons. Without your trusty blade, what would you do when you ran completely out of ammo while staring down your terrified enemy in a firefight or creeping up behind hapless victims? The Gerber Gator Machete was modeled by Naota, textured by Dr. Hubbler, and animated by Thisismyname09.
As mentioned above, our Moddb page has been updated to fit the true FAS theme, so make sure you head on over there to check it out! For those who are in the Desura beta, we will also be making sure to release on their distribution platform. We really appreciate the community coming together to support Firearms: Source, please post on our forum and stop by our IRC channel #firearms-source @ irc.gamesurge.net to lend us some feedback. (Yes, I do expect some "Release the game already" comments). Thanks again for being so loyal! We will also get our testers working on another tester video once the Orange Box version is feeling good.

I don't really like the serrated edge on the top of the machete, But the "boot hill" stencil makes up for it.
