Still waiting for HL2 to be released.
In the meantime I have started learning Softimage XSI for HL2 to get familiar with the interface and all its inner workings. Currently I am scanning the Star Blazer episodes and creating a makeshift map of the Yamato. I need to see each and every room and hallway that was ever show in the episodes to start my preliminary design of the entire ship. I'm planning on replicating everything that was show as close as I can ... everything from the moving walkways in the hallways ... to reproducing the heat waves when in the engine room (that will take some OpenGL fiddling to achieve that effect). I don't want to "short-change" any of the rooms just to get the mod completed. I want you to be able to press whatever buttons you see, push stuff off tables if you feel like it, and place explosives down on to the moving walkways ... and watch it travel down the hallway ... and blow it up when it reaches your foes! :)
As for the music in the game, the tracks have been selected and are ready to insert into the game. Sound effects for the game are in current production now.
Only item that may be an issue is the scale. I will try to correctly scale the Yamato as it would be in real life. This will not only make the game a bit more realistic ... but should be fun to spend hours exploring every nook and cranny :)
This aspiration to realism may cause the mod size to increase to do the texture, model, and sound files. Now-a-days you see mods reaching 600-700MB in size. This mod may easily surpass that. What I would like to do is make it available via bittorrent. I am a big fan of bittorrents! I can get hugh files withing an hour or so ... as long as everyone does their part and shares! :)
I will try to update everyone more often. The mod team and I have been busy with everyday things. Hopefully this coming summer we can crank out some goodies as far as models, sample sounds, and map sketches (or if HL2 ever comes out ... preliminary levels for you to play with in HL2)
Thanks to you all who visit our mod site here on moddb and our freewebs site.
