A Republic at War news update for the month of May, 2017.

Hi all,

It's been a while since our last update but we wanted to give you guys an update as to where we're at.

Current Project Status

2017 v1.2 Tasklist: 258/295 tasks complete (87%).

We still have a bit more work to do but we have committed to finishing RaW v1.2 in 2017.

Previously, we had mentioned that the project will be moving to GitHub. We made the call to instead move the project to GitLab so that we could store the entire project (assets and all).

After the 1.2 release has been finalized, the plan is to have the community help contribute to the project in an effort to (greatly) improve turn-around time on further development work. This will also give you the opportunity to leave your mark on the Republic at War project.

Note that this will integrate fully with the new launcher, allowing players to keep their games up to date without having to manually download and install anything.

We do plan on running a small closed beta shortly before the final release. We'll follow up with more details on this later in the year.

Long time no see Republic at War team! Us fans are getting divided from patience and impatience for this mod. It gladdens me that all my wait won't be in vain!

They added 50 more tasks bringing a net difference of 1 task, not too bad. It might just be a clerical error though.

We have done in fact a couple of things. Basically we researched our options to host the mod beside moddb. We needed some infrastructure that will be supported by the launcher. This ensures features like downloading only broken files or continue an aborted download. Beside that we improved the launcher itself. Mostly code work but it should be quiet durable by now. We had some sort of deadlock but we think we resolved it now so we can work on the mod more frequently. Some stuff for 1.3 is also done already. We will show you once 1.2 is out.

I don't mean any disrespect. I was just simply confused about how such a significant amount of time can only contribute to 2%. I am still a great fan of the mod and eagerly await its new release.

Though I do wish that LAN worked so I could play it with someone. That is not your fault, of course.

I've been able to use LAN to play skirmish battles with others... it may just be a problem on your end in that case.

I quit disagree. Great Software companies do open source their projects now. See Microsoft as huge reference. Even Apple open sourced swift as far I can remember. The point is not to that people should do our work but to provide the possibility to interact very close with us about ideas new features or fixes. A forum or board like this here does not come close to this opportunity. Of course, to clear your accusation, we will still develop future versions primarily in the team. We still set up the road raw will go but just with much more input from the community. It's their mod after all.

I hope I am mistaken and proven wrong, but this sounds similar to that other project where you tried to recruit my team and others to do the work for you....

This mod had so much potential... 2 years and that sort of announcement just doesn't scream reassurance... again, I wish RAW best of luck, but when you have this many people following your project for so long, a little more effort in production is sorta expected...

i have told you once, that doing software requirement engineering can not be done without real end users. so basically, yes, i asked them to help me a bit more actively than we do here (this is completely voluntary). I don't quiet understand why you don't see this point. take some random RE book and it will tell you. But that's about it. I got this things finished (at least the university part. and the mark was really good), and don't want to discuss this on. not in our both interest i suppose.
To response to the second part:
Thanks for your warm words. A few posts up i gave a bit more details what we have done in the meantime. Of course you might be right that this sounds a bit less, but there are other things we had to. I'm talking about RL. As for me I'm very busy with 3 projects for university right now in addition to get some other private things sorted out. and Killer, as far as I know, has a 45+h week with his job anyway. I hope we can deliver some more news soon ... Including a release.

This is rich, the manager is talking about potential. Had you quit modding 5 years ago strobe and left the project in the far more capable hands of those you bullied out of the community, we'd have made 3 (complete) vong mods by now.

Dares to mention potential, pffff. The sheer hypocrisy on display here. It's mind-blowing.

At some point you have to quit donald-trumping your way out of every bit of critisism and admit you don't have the chops to manage anything, least of all a mod team.

I've actually made and released a mod in half the time your project has been going, and it's a one-man project. What have you achieved other than empty promises lately?

Also anakin, I personally like the idea of allowing some open-source in modding. Don't think there will be much participation, personally, but it at least gives the entire progress and process so much more transparency, that it's already worth it.

Thanks Shimrra. If you look at the Git Repo of the Mod BattleFront Commander there are i think over 30 open issues. Not sure how many different people did commit them, BUT the interest seems to exists at last. We are really looking foreward to use git in the future anyway

With all this effort you guys should just rework the alamo engine or create a new one and make Empire at War 2 XD.

I mean someone has got to continue RTS star wars gaming, and Disney has shown no signs of interest except for mobile crap.

developing a new engine, that however you did not mention it, is compatible with the current one, would be very very time intense. You need exactly to know what you are doing when developing such critical software. Unfortunately the PG guys at their state from Eaw/Foc didn't either. Not saying the engine is bad but it has some issues that even in the time of 2006 when the games were released are at least questionable. The thing at disney/EA is that they have no intention at all to support modding, or are offical Battlefront tools already out?

Glad to see this mod is still alive, though I'm excited about Thrawn's Revenge 3, since their mods seems to prevent the ship warps in, ships shields immediately fail, ship instasplodes issue that no other mods seem to address.

But some issues your mod still has are this, going off a currently playthrough that I am doing now: It appears that after a certain point in time during the GC that you will run into a bug that every time you capture an enemy planet and you zoom into it, you get an Exception Error that causes a CTD. A work around is: When you go to start the battle, do not be zoomed into the planet. Once battle is won, *save*, zoom into the planet, crash the game, reload, and hope it doesn't do it again. Another work around, after battle is won, *save*, move fleets to another planet, reorganize the fleets, then return them. Of course, that is a giant pain in the *** if said planet taken doesn't have hyperlanes to it.

Another issue that is insanely frustrating: Mechis and the "spawning" droid forces. I'm ok with the spawning of them, what I'm not ok with is these units showing up on the Minimap looking *almost* the same as the units you **need** to destroy in order to defeat the droid army. Allow me to explain, since for whatever reason a single droid unit can prevent an entire droid planet from being secure, you need to hunt down every single unit. Ok no problem, destroy the Droid base, then hunt down the units. Except the map spawns *infinite* units to attack you. A work around that I have come up with: Bring *Yoda*, and use his force reveal. Once you do that, take a very, *very* close look at the minimap. You will notice a few unit icons are **slightly** larger than others. Those **slightly** larger units, are the ones you need to destroy in order to defeat the droid army. Suggested way to solve the issue? Make those spawned units a *different* color. That way we know which units have to die, and which don't, instead of having a ***Two Hour*** battle on one of the early planets you are going to want to nab early in the GC as the Republic.

Other than that, it seems to be going well. Please solve these two issue and that will go a long way into making your mod, that much more enjoyable. Thanks for your time, and attention.

Forgot to mention one other issue I've found: Atleast Two Space Battles (Mintooine and Duras (I think is the second one)) have planet battle sounds. I.E birds, crickets ect as ambience noise. Not Alderaan shattering, just something I imagine you'd like to correct. I'll post any more issue I have to this thread as well.

Can you guys add the droid carrier (not the mtt the one in the backround!)? Maybe the defoliator? also make the hmp able carry troops, it was capable of doing so.

Hey, i´m happy to now that the mod continue progressing, thid you now when is comming this new version? (is curiosity if you need more time take it), and this is my first mod and the only that i have and i have a question, when the new update relase, i have to eliminate republic at war from my pc and download again the new version or i only have to download the new version and nothing else?

Kann die 1.2 kaum erwarten. kannst du bitte cpt rex hinzufügen ich meine die 212th und cody gibt es auch und die 501th auch das fehlt halt irgendwie noch rex und es wäre ja cool wenn zb die 212th und cody gemeinsam kämpfen dass die dann einen kleinen extra "buff" bekommen.
