Dinosaurs vs. Robots! Many months back, the Jailbreak: Source team were interviewed by ModDB's very own Stenchy and Henley for one of the first modcasts. During the interview we joked about replacing the Combine and Rebel player models for 0.5, with Dinosaurs vs. Robots. Then we realised what a genius concept that was... and went ahead and did it! Check them out below!
The shots above also show images from one of several new maps, called Mizraim. Designed by IZaNaGI, the map continues our trend of having multiple unique environments in which to battle. You can also see shots from the updated version of Deepcore. This will be our first release to classify as a Total Conversion, something we're extremely proud of, and can't wait to share with you all!
The next release of Jailbreak is almost finished, and we'll be releasing plenty more shots and a few trailers in the coming weeks to give you a taster of what we've done. In the mean time, be sure to add yourself to our Mod Watch if you haven't already! i don't see this as a bad idea I 1: really didn't see this coming like its funny and fresh witch is good 2: they do look cool but i once again didn't think of dinos Vs Robots when i think of breaking out of jail going through water but than again what does make sense in jailbreak lol

Haha! Looks like we got you guys a bit stunned! I hope everyone likes them, we know the concept wont be to everyone's taste, but the idea and ethos behind Jailbreak: Source has always been Arcade, fun, colourful, simple and fast! So for us, in deciding what kind of player models to replace the Rebels and Combine with, Dinosaurs and Robots just fit perfectly!

Everyone knows dinosaurs aren't smart enough to use guns! Take the guns away from the raptors and give them fast movement speed, a killer claw-to-the-face attack, and deadly bite!
Nah JK! The models are awesome, but deadly melee dinosaurs would make an interesting gametype.

Am I the only one who things that was the worst design decision ever?
I think it really sucks.
I doubt it! But we never wanted to play it safe with the choice of player models... It had to be outrageous or bizarre, with a sci-fi root and this concept fit the bill! We're a mod team afterall, we can and should take risks with high-concepts like this! I hope you'll come try it out when we release though :D
Indeed, the reason for the decision was to enhance the very arcade gameplay and almost anime art style we already had inplace for 0.4. Dino's versus Robot's was the perfect choice (in our opinion) to continue with the varied and fun design process of Jailbreak: Source, especially with our maps being set in "Random locations in time and space".
Me thinks you probably need to lighten up, gaming isn't all about fighting in dark monotone environments with with faceless soldiers ;)

Thanks for all the great comments so far guys, I'm really pleased to see that the majority likes what we're up to! We knew there would be people thinking "Erm... they on crack?" but we just had to do it... Once the idea of Dinosaurs vs. Robots was in our heads, it never left!

I always thought that you will someday make complete custom playermodels... but dinosaurs? and robots?
...oh well, at least the gameplay will stay :)

mods with only half life 2 content are usually crap

I have to disagree that mods with only Half-Life 2 content are crap. Ever heard of Minerva: Metastasis? Easily *the* best HL2 single player mod ever made.
I have to say though, this update really disappoints me. While I'll probably still play it, this mod always had some realism and sort of fit in the Half-Life 2 universe (perhaps before or after HL2 because of the weapon differences).
I'm very disappointed by this decision to turn Jailbreak into nothing more than an arcade game, instead of the popular real mod it could have been.
Totally respect that opinion mate, but the intention never was to make Jailbreak into any kind of realism mod and we have ALWAYS stated that Jailbreak: Source would be anti-realism to the core. Fair enough, that isn't everyone's cup of tea, but realism games/mods aren't really my cup of tea either.
Indeed, totally respect your opinion and very well put too... but for us, the chief complaint from the large majority of our player base after the release of 0.4, was the inclusion of HL2 content, and the Rebel and Combine player models... We had decided early on to replace those, prior to 0.4, but the complaints spurred us on to do this for 0.5. As IZaNaGI said, our intention all along has been to create something totally new, and not within the realms of the HL2 universe, and likewise, we have always aimed to make this an arcade shooter, and not a realism mod :D
"Real Mod?" By real mod do you mean that it's not based on real life? Righto the term mod means to modify existing content to change the desired outcome. So by your definition real mods are non-existent as it wouldn't be modified if it was a real mod.
There is no real mods only mods.
