After 2 months of hard work, we're proud to be announcing the development of Half-Life 2: Classic. This has been an idea that many people in the Half-Life community have wanted to see, and now we have the first chapter practically done.
We're a small team of 5 people, and and we've been doing this all in our free time. The reason we wanted to announce this before we were finished was because we're in desperate need of people, especially programmers and modelers. If you have any experience with either of these, contact me here, explaining your experience.
You might be aware that this has already been attempted already, but none of these have actually panned out. With Half-Life 2 Classic, we hope to communicate more with the community, so that even if we don't manage to recreate the whole game, we can still release a substantial part of it, which can be continued by someone else in the future.
Anyway, feel free to play through the demo and give us your suggestions. We're still debating if we should stick close to Half-Life 2's graphics, or if we should downgrade them on purpose, and if so, how much. We may even make optional high-res models for the hd model pack, while keeping the base game's models low-res. But it depends on what most people want.
We hope you enjoy :)

Now Half-Life 2 can feel like an even older and shittier game than it already is!
Edgy
Your PC must be terrible.
Aww man, you should've called it City 17 in the vein of Black Mesa. I hope you guys can tough it out till it's done!
There's already a mod that has that name.
It would be very cool if you could make it look like a 1998 game and not just HL2 on gold source. I think you should downgrade the graphics.
Following!
Fantastic idea! I take this means no Alyx following you around, no vehicle sections and no gravity gun puzzles, right? Also, will you use this opportunity to incorporate the HL1 monsters that did not make it into Half-Life 2?
HL had on rail vehicles.
Counter strike had rudimentary vehicles.
Considering that CS was also a mod I think vehicles shouldn't be out of question.
Gunman Chronicles had a fully functional vehicle.
Alyx will follow us normally, and when he can not, I suppose they will make an animation and teleport the NPC
If the engine can handle it, i'd say push it as far as you can.
I like the idea
Downgrade the graphics to look more like Half-Life 1, but still keep the same art style from Hl2, specifically with stuff like the Headcrabs.
What? What?! What??!!
How cool!
What did I just witness...
Inb4 Dreamcast version confirmed!
I alwys wondered if a project like this would be attempted. To be honest, I love the idea but am still devided over how certain core elements to HL2 could even be replicated in HL1, physics puzzles for instance, and needless to say the gravity gun.
Im actually excited for this. I have weird taste in wanting to see the game reduced to the blocky aesthetic of older engines full of charm.
I support this all the way, you've done an astounding job do far!
Really, just love it.
Wow, I always dreamed of something like this. Keep up the good work!
Regarding the pool, I'd like to see HL2 assets modified to be in the style of HL1. Models looked too "high quality" in the demo, especially when comparing them with environment and lighting.
Oh, and I died of laughter when I saw Barney AHHAHA
Full Playthrough:
Why are the gman and the citizen/scientist models not working for you? (You have the hl1 models but for me it uses the ported hl2 models)
It will be enjoyable seeing the enraged Half-Life 3 kids get mad at this mod.
I really enjoyed this. I hope that you can take this far! Best of luck!
This is awesome! I know it's sort of the beginning and that there's a lot of room for improvement over the course of it being made. But I think the models used should look like the "low quality" models from half life. Just to give it a more 90s feel to the game but regardless this is awesome!
Keep up the good work!
