In preparation for the MODDB awards, we’ve been gathering lots of new media ready for everybody to view. One of the things that I’ve always had difficulty was explaining the setting and back-story of the mod. Usually when I try to quickly formulate a synopsis on the spot, it makes the mod sound not very exciting. So because of this, the first round of media for The Rising is going to be an “Intro” trailer explaining what’s going on. I hope that once everybody knows what is happening story-wise, they’ll appreciate the upcoming media assets more.
Also, don't forget to vote for us. Remember during this voting period you can vote for as many mods as you want.
Synopsis
Just as mankind is on the brink of extinction from a deadly pandemic, Extraterrestrials establish contact and offer a "cure" (an organism from their home planet). Although the majority of the population is afflicted by the raging virus and have no other option, a small minority immune to the virus resist the organism. Due to Mans inability to coexist, a social division emerges masking the presence of this hostile organism.
sweet
all i can say is o.o
...and the game, where is it?? XDXDXD
Are you entering the compotition and expecting to do well when you have near to no mod content? You have like 5 images, 4 in the secition, one on the mod link, and you have a pretty nice trailer, that still shows nothnig of the mod?
Just seems a little odd?
No, I'm expecting to enter into the competition with a series of media releases. This being release 1, an intro/cinematic meant to setup the mods back story and lay the groundwork for the upcoming media updates. There was actually a LOT of media content but I cleaned up the profile because it was all old and, if you were a new visitor to the profile, once we go to the later media releases showing game play you would know what to expect. This way, all new comers (and even people who may have seen the profile in the past but may have forgotten what the mod looked like) will get the best first-impression possible thanks to our latest build as opposed to old stuff.
Well old and new media would still give an insight to what to expect. A video of a news clip montage and text isnt really a "booster" for people to want the mod as it shows nothing about it. Storylines are not everything and i believe that gameplay is the most important. Else you end up like Halo 3... Tonnes of awesome media releases, real life halo shots thought to be from a movie, has an awesome storyline... But the singleplayer was boring, and if it wasnt for multiplayer being so fun, the gameplay aspect would have failed completly. As far as the singleplayer goes, it was terrible.
Just saying that all content gives people a better insight to a mod, old or new content. Written storyline, and new clips do not give a proper insight if you get what i mean?
Thanks :)
What gives you the right to criticise an unfamiliar way to showcase a mod ?
Leave them alone.
He was using constructive criticism. He was trying to help the mod developer.

I remember this mod from last year. It had alot of media just to let you know. But then it got taken off
Not bad. Cleverly created video there and the mapping from the images look good, although very dark to view. Based on the synopsis I quite like the idea!
As with any mod, more content would be help to entice us and show off your mod :)
Oh and I forgot to ask... what does the player actually do in this game? Do we get to shoot aliens? :)
Looking forward to the upcoming media releases, the mods plot/story/idea interests me greatly. Also, the video was a pretty good blend of a bunch of clips, fits it almost... too well.
Isn't there a Half life 1 mod called The Rising? But anyways, I like the trailer even though there might be copyright problems with that. I like the story though.
Nice work, I can see some effort went into this trailer. The screenshots look good so far, keep up the good work :)
Like the video, almost a prophetic look into the rule of the self proclaimed chosen one, Obama... lol
I thought this was a horror mod by the picture
I actually thought this vid was put together very well and held my interest right until the end. Only bad points, the newpaper pages could have been made to look more like real newspaper pages... just by using different fonts etc... and no gameplay :(
Hope you release some gameplay footage soon, I meen you must have some considering release is penned down for october atm.
So tracking for now.
