A quick mock-up of our combat, complete with controls.

Into The Rift is a pixel art metroidvania. It's centered around exploration, melee combat and parkour. For the combat we're borrowing heavily from the NES Punchout mechanic. Your opponent will block much of the time. You must dodge one of their attacks which sends them into a dazed, vulnerable state. Then you can counter attack. Different opponents will play differently, of course.

The number one question I get about the game, is how does it control? So I mocked up this basic combat sequence, complete with controls. We're committed to keeping the inputs as simple as possible. With these simple inputs we're building a (hopefully) deep, realistic and satisfying combat model.
