Indie of the Year Awards

It's time once again – the 2021 Indie of the Year awards have commenced! These player-voted awards are the original and best way for gamers to make it known how much they appreciate the creative works of independent developers.

Indies Persevere

If 2020 was about holding on whilst the world crumbles around you, 2021 was about picking up the pieces. Some have been fortunate enough to see life returning, somewhat, to normal, with vaccine rollouts and community collaboration just about getting us back on our feet. Some are, unfortunately, still caught in the wave of chaos that erupted last year. Through it all, however, IndieDB has flourished, our community has stood firm, and the work of cutting-edge developers has persevered regardless of the challenges laid before us.

Indie games and the indie landscape remain an undiscovered country of untapped brilliance, with the sheer creativity expressed by our community of talented developers being a source of excitement year in and year out. No matter how tough it gets, passion and creativity win the day, and the time has come to say thank you to all the indie developers that made 2021 just a little easier to get through than 2020!

Phase 1: Nominations Begin

Over the next 10 days, a voting booth will appear on every indie game's profile page. Simply visit the profile for the game you wish to vote for, and hit the “vote now” button to submit your preference.

Phase 2: The Top 100

Nominations will close on December 10, and will then be tallied to determine the Top 100 games of the year. This list will be revealed on December 11, and then, voting on games in this Top 100 will begin for another 10 days, to determine the 2021 Indie of the Year!

Phase 3: Indie of the Year 2021 Revealed

Come Christmas, the final awards will be rolled out over a series of days. The announcements will be presented as follows:

  • Editors Choice Awards (22nd December)
  • Players Choice: Unreleased Indie Game (27th December)
  • Players Choice: Indie of the Year 2021 (28th December)

Promote Your Game To Help Get Votes!

Developers, you should make as much noise about your game as possible to get it in front of potential voters! Luckily, we've created some tools to help you do just this.

Win Games for Voting

Every member from the community who votes has a chance to win a game from our #modlove collection. The more you participate, promote the awards and encourage your friends to vote the better your chance. In addition to this the winning indie teams will be heavily promoted across our network, get the prestigious honor of being able to include the award badge where-ever they damn well please, and be introduced to publishers interested in taking their idea to the next level.
