As of August 26, at 6:55 pm, Half-Life 2 is officially available for pre-loading to all Steam account owners. If you do not already own Steam, you can download it from the Steam website. According to Erik Johnson of Valve Software, the file is roughly 500mb compressed.

Half-Life 2 pre-loading begins to Steam account holders today. Over the coming days, those who have selected the pre-loading option will have encrypted Half-Life 2 files delivered to their PC. No purchase is required to pre-load HL2, but is required to activate the game. Purchase options will be released soon. Then, the moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased Half-Life 2 via Steam will be authenticated and ready to start playing. I will buy the CD version because the download version will be with similar prize because the world is not ready for download distribution. We have the system (internet and steam) but our mind are not ready for a 3 $ or 10 $ Half-Life 2

Anyway will be cool if Valve sell by steam new CD-Key. Some people will have piracy copys and will want to upgrade to legal copys.

I hope this means that the SDK will be released soon...

I want to be able to have a CD so that I can just redownload something without having to go through my hard drive reformatting on accident, or having problems with Steam not recognizing the download. I want to be able to have a back-up where I can burn the CD if need be.

Besides, it's a better way to show it off to your friends :D
