Post news Report RSS Freespace: Evolution on Moddb

Even after all these years, Freespace and Freespace 2 still are two of my favorite games of all time. Sadly, there are no sequels to continue the legacy. Even after all these years, Freespace and Freespace 2 still are two of my favorite games of all time. Sadly, there are no sequels to continue the legacy. However, over the last couple of months I became very much involved in Nexus modding again, so it seemed natural to combine both excellent sci-fi games to create something new...

Nexus and Freespace are quite different, if you start thinking about it. Freespace is all about the small crafts: wings of fighters and bombers dogfighting with each other or trying to land a crippling hit on some behemoth of a ship. Nexus on the other hand doesn't really care about its fighters. Sure, you have them and they are quite useful, but you don't really have much control over what or how they do things. The options and variety are rather limited compared to Nexus' capital ships, which are often more critical to a mission's success. As a result 'Freespace: Evolution' will focus much more on capital ship combat than what you may be used to from the actual Freespace games, so I hope even the veteran players will have something new and unique to experience in this mod.

This mod wouldn't be possible without the nice guys of the Freespace Source Code Project and Freespace Upgrade Project. They've been coding for the old FS2 engine and creating incredible ships and effects for years now, keeping the game looking good even about ten years after its release. 'Freespace: Evolution' will feature models and textures from the latest mediavp version to allow for a quick mod development and high-quality ingame ships. My thanks go to these guys for allowing me to use their assets - this mod wouldn't be possible without them!

Expect more updates, images and videos in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more!
