We have a lot of work on the go to make Mod DB v4 a happy place. Our focus at the moment is addressing everyones number one complaint. To show we mean business "game" filtering has just been added to the mod listing. It is by no means perfect but we wanted to deploy this quick fix to show we care, and that we will make every aspect of this site better than v3.
The Mod DB Team (look out for more soon, otherwise please tell us your no.1 issues and we will do our best to address them!)
Great to hear it, this was certainly one of the most requested fixes :)
Best and worst? I can't think of any worst at the moment, to be honest. Actually, I like the way that teams, games and mods are separated now. This really grants you to work on your team profile seperately to your mod profile. I think that is really one of the best changes. And furthermore, the overall site layout has a far better overview.
What I really love is the new video feature. From all the features to come, this is my personal most wanted. It'll be great once you can really show video trailers or coverage right within moddb in addition to imagery.
Best: Groups. Creating Mod teams before mods works so much better.
Worst: Console Gaming. Im sorry, but mods its really all about PCs, and in my opinion the console pages just clutter up the place.
You can filter them out by clicking "PC" in the tabs at the top.
You can actually filter them out completly. Just click on the arrows at the end of the console list at the top. There you can change what tabs you see across the top.
Although I think it is unlikely that we will see any console mods in the near future anyway.
This is a bit off-topic, but I'd like to suggest an Updates tweak. If I'm watching a mod, its game and its game's engine I'll receive three separate updates whenever the mod team posts something. It'd make much more sense to filter the update from any upstream objects likes games and engines, so I only get one notification and it's in the most specific of my watched categories.
So if a mod that I'm not watching posted an update it would appear in the game's box, and if a mod for a game I'm not watching had an update posted, it would appear in the engine's box.
Best: Addition of groups, and the linking system.
Worst (or rather one that i miss): The little icon in the top right corner of posted news items on the main page that would show what engine the mod is being developed on. Such a great feature that I took for granted. Very quickly conveys a ton of info. If you guys bring this back I suppose you could also add a platform icon (PC, Wii, PS3 etc.) too.
I agree with your worst there. Also the lack of mod name is also bugging me a bit, as I can't tell which mod the news is for.
Agreed - I expect we will bring back the Game Icons. It makes sense.
Definitely a top place fix for the next time. News post this way are very hard to read if you have to produce a click festival to get the informations you need.
I only dislike one "feature": the news don't show the engine/game the mod is for.
You have to click the headline to find it out! Probably an additional sentence below the headline should work there!
Definately agreed, having the name and/or icon of the engine/game the mod is for in the news and updates would be welcome.
Indeed that is probaly the worst part of the site. I want to know what game the mod is for. While some mods look cool, I don't actually have the game the mod is for.
best: new colors and animations is always welcome.
WORST: the Help Wanted section that doesnt exist anymore, bring it back :) mod DB is the only site i know with that had that kind of feature, and it was awesome.
I think that feature just isn't done yet.
Aye it should be pretty obvious that the "ModDB" is the main feature on ModDB and is a huge part of why I started to visit the site. The old filtering system was perfect for me, but if someone has an idea on how to improve it I’m interested to see how it would turn out. (in its current state it does indeed suck)
Best i dont know havent looked around enough but worst i do know
please bring back the what engine a mod runs on for the home page newest news the little image that used to be in the upper right corner of the news posting
I agree about the game/engine icon by the newsposts.
v4 + the new features are fantastic..
but i miss the small gamelogos which show me to which game the mod is build on, same like Ender612 said before.
this makes it a bit chaotic i believe.
Just get back to v3 and stfu.
I thought it was lame how you cant see what game the mod is for. so basicaly I am agreeing with shadow will.
1)you can't see on what game the mod is based in the newstitles...
2)news is the fourth item...shouldn't it be the first?
Fifth, not fourth... :)
3)I can't edit my post :p
not being able to edit comments is intentional
Quick question, how to we make our theme blue, like in all you pictures?
I personally am glad theres a consol page, especially for the ps3, we are going to see a lot of mods for it. Yeah, thats right, mods. According to the developers of Unreal Tournament 3, the ps3 version lets you play mods. You download them online, on the ps3 (you obviously need online connection) and you play them. Making thems a bit harder, you have to do that on the pc then save it onto the ps3 via a disk. Still, it shows promise.
Ohh, and my only real complaint is that enter never presses the buttons. Let me rephrase, when you sign in you type your user name and password, then I click enter. I just get that little beep sound. I have to manually click the button. Same thing happens whenever I am searching anything.
I know, small complaint but its all I could really think of.
When new articles are listed on the home page I would like to see what mod/group/game the articles are related to.
Although I need some time to get used to the new appearance of the site, not to mention the smaller glitches I experience from time to time (f.e. buttons occasionally disappear then reappear), I think that you have done a great job so far. Many new features look promising, even if they are far from working always as intended.
Anyway, I second Deathman in his complaint. I always used Enter when I searched for mods or logged in. Unfortunately it does not work right now. Fixing it would make the portal more comfortable to use.
Wish you all the best in fine-tuning v4! ;)
Echoing what everyone else is saying, but I'm hoping by so many posts about it, it will be fixed, and quickly. The name of the mod, and the game it is for should be in the news post title. Even after clicking for the full news post, the name of the mod isn't even in there. You have to click some media and hope they labeled the image.
Well after click through to the news post it shows up on the right hand side under related mods.
