Edain 4.0 Preview Livestream Now On Youtube
We recently broadcast the first three public multiplayer matches of Edain 4.0 live on Twitch. If you missed it, you can now catch up and watch all three games on our Youtube channel! Note that the commentary is largely in German, provided by Edain Team Member Lord of Mordor, Edain Masters Host Caun and our testers Gabromir and Amdir. Nevertheless, this video is a great look at more than an hour of uninterrupted, unvarnished 4.0 gameplay!
The first game was a classic 1v1 on Fords of Isen. The second match was our personal highlight of the stream and showcased our new Conquest Mode, where one player wins by holding more than half of all the settlements for five minutes. This led to a highly dynamic game with players battling all across the map, just as we hoped!
The third match turned out to be the least exciting, as it was a 2v2 with four Mordor players. Unfortunately, Mordor is the strongest faction by far in this unfinished beta version right now, so we didn't want Mordor to play against other factions and spontaneously decided on a mirror match. Not the best of ideas in retrospect, but the first two games are well worth watching!

I can't describe what I'm feeling right now; the balance in the first two matches is unbelievable! I've never before seen such a balance and intense except maybe in Men of War: Assault Squad games. The new mechanics and game modes add more to the magic of Edain ^-^
This world will totally be hopeless if Edain doesn't make it into the Top 10

Indeed, it was quite interesting to see Gondor win against Rohan in that first match by simply holding out and destroying their army. Clearly Rohan is the most aggressive of the two; I wish we could have seen a rematch of the Conquest Mode, I fear that Rohan may be too good at holding territory, what with the extremely mobile Rohirrim, numerous guard towers, regeneration capabilities and cheap reinforcements.
Did you change something about the experience rewards for killing units? I remember in BFME2/ROTWK you get power points for hitting, not for killing. Did you change that?
Units and heroes get experience for killing enemies as in Bfme2 / RotWk. The spellbook gets experience when damage is dealt.
You know ... the Edain community is not just a german one. If you decide to make a live stream to show stuff it would help alot more if you spoke english. The german speakers on moddb are not that many compared to the people interested in this mod.
On the flipside, though, there aren't many in the German team and community who speak such fluent English that they'd be comfortable narrating a two-hour livestream. We're aware this is not ideal, and the mod itself will be translated for version 4.0. We're still trying to work out how we could organize future livestreams to better serve both parts of our community, but it's no small problem.
well this is a nice coincidence I personally would be happy to commentate over anything you think would be necessary and also record voices for the mod if you so wish (I am also studying German at school in England so it may help with my education)
To be fair, they are being nice enough already by translating the mod to english, I don't think they should try to appease their international audience at every turn. Let them speak in their native language, if that's what they feel like doing.
As much as the third match being the least exciting, for me it's the most hilarious; Orcs clashing with Orcs, two Saurons beating the **** out of each other, we even get to see some of the new complex systems in Mordor.
In fact, this match has made my day :D because of the whole uniqueness of the new Mordor compared to the little usual Gondor and Rohan.
One more thing; I've noticed that many buildings still have the upgrade button, and in an occasion in the first match I saw the player actually clicking it :/ so is it part of the unfinished stuff, or there's something more to it??
The upgrade only exists on farms and is a button to get more commandpoints ;)
Great! Noticed that you have had all the characters in the main building. Good decision. I would like to see the other factions, especially the Goblin. If Mordor will be too strong, and the balance has not yet had time to let him play against two players)

What you guys are doing looks so great, you're bringing a new breath to this game and in general to the Tolkien universe, keep it up!! And thank you for the stream, of course! :)
Aren't Rohirrim units too much black? I can't hardly distinguish them on the stream... The archers look the same as the swordsmen but with bows... I love the 'traveler' style, but, aren't them too much similar?

That is not certain yet, but it is not unlikely.
