It's update time! Recruitment, create your own companion competition, and more!

Hello!

It's time for a long overdue developer update! I'd like to apologize for the delay, things slowed down considerably what with the winter holidays, but now we're getting back on track and continuing development.

For a while now we've been working towards a new Blood & Steel, not just reworked and remade; we've decided to go the way of a total overhaul! But before we go into the specifics of that, there are a few relatively important things we'd like to go through first!

First off: We're now expanding our recruitment drive! We need 3D modellers, coders and a writer! Sceners are still on our priority list, however we've been working on this project for just over 3 - 4 years now, so I think it's about time we expanded our team with some fresh blood to spread the work load out and help move development on at a much faster pace. The recruitment thread can be found here, or you can click on the "Join the Team Button" on the front page.

Secondly: The "Create Your Own Companion" competition! To enter the competition follow this link, and adhere to the instructions. Participants will be entered into the credits, and the winners' submissions will be added into the mod.

Thirdly: It's time to divulge the details on the cut content, delivered to you in the form of a easily digestable list!

- Freelancer - I had my apprehension on adding this in the first place, I ultimately decided that it wasn't worth readding back into the mix.

- Chengdao - I know we promised not to cut any factions, but we're trying to be as conservative with space as we can. It may make a return, but it is highly unlikely.

- Acadamies - Technically this isn't being cut, instead we're going to merge them with the arsenal feature

- Combat Abilities - Not something terribly important, however we have no intent on readding them in the foreseeable future.

Fourthly: Now we can get to the thing you've been waiting for! The interpretive dance segment! -- I mean the details on the new world we've decided to craft!

Yes, that is right, we've decided to go for the first option we discussed in dev blog 31/10/16

But this brings us to a interesting opportunity: Now that we're starting from the begining we have a blank canvas to work with, so what if we were to not only start again, but take what we have now and create an original setting. A completely new world to explore and conquer, take all of the factions we have now and put them in a new setting, with new factions, some of which we wanted to do originally but didn't fit in the existing Warband canon, some of which you guys might want to suggest.

So without further delay, we would like to introduce you to the world of Winds of War: Blood & Steel - 1870.

The year is 1877, a golden age is coming to an end in a fog sulfurous mist and a storm of lead. Draecia, the cradle of civilization, and man's best -- And worst -- creations. Wrought in corruption, violence and affluence, the kings and warriors of this realm prepare for war over a myriad of reasons, ranging from land disputes to one man's desire for world domination. Meanwhile across the great western ocean the lush virgin lands of Luciana are beset by adventurers seeking fame and wealth, the powers that rule the continent race for supremacy over the fertile and gold rich eastcoast and midwestern regions, whilst the primitive inhabitants try desperately to halt the inevitable expansion into and conquest of their native home.

As we said in the dev blog which was quoted above, we're taking the factions we have now (Albeit with different names) and putting them into an entirely new world for you to explore, conquer and enjoy. Along with the new map which draws ever closer to completion, we're also working on a rich lore to accompany it to explain the events in the world, give insight into the lands' politics and even explore new themes. There is a lot of space for us to create a rich world and a deep narrative with the native world out of the way.

Last few notes:

Again, I'd like to apologize for the delay in news, the winter holidays are a relatively tumultuous time, and even we lifeless few have to take a break and enjoy ourselves every once in a while.

We hope that the next dev blog won't take too long coming out, either way please stay tuned, there are going to be a lot of changes in the foreseeable future, plus some sneak peaks at the new factions, new map, and the detailed explaination of the estate feature we promised to do (Which is next up, unless something unforeseen happens.)

What is "release date"?

All of this sounds really good, especially the part where you will create your own Canon.

I do hope that freelancer will be added later though, cutting it from your mod's features is like giving up on what is essentially a different style of play which allows for more opportunities to be explored; you're removing something big.

guys freelancer is extremely buggy from the start and though it adds a new gameplay style it honestly does not work well with the style of gmae we are creating. freelancer works best when everything is just running around trying to kill stuff and thats not how you win in this game.

Dude...not the freelancer. Seriously, the fact it was gonna have freelancer in it was 90 percent of why I have been waiting for this mod so patiently for all this time. Now I might as well go play L'Aigle.
