We're posting a dev log every week here on IndieDB and this is the first one. This time, it's all about game difficulty. How exciting!!

Features

  • added game difficulty settings
    • difficulty affects the health and speed of the Undead and the amount of damage they deal
    • higher difficulty increases the amount of gold dropped and the chance of item drops

Dev Features

  • significantly improved the in-game debugging capabilities for game objects

Up until now, our goal was to leave difficulty settings away. Players who can't beat a specific level were to grind earlier levels until they become strong enough. While this sounds nice in general, the difference in skill between hardcore and casual gamers is just to great. Balancing this approach to everybody's pleasure became an unsolvable task.

So here they are, difficulty settings! Barely implemented, it turned out that they are a great feature for all kinds of players. In a twist of fate, they actually make grinding more fun. Need more gold the easy way? Go play an earlier level in Ultra difficulty.

Also, we can now debug game objects much easier, which really was about time…
