Post news Report RSS DEATHWING Post Mortem

Sadly, I have to announce the end of DEATHWING mod support.

Hi everybody,

It shouldn't be a surprise that there hasn't been any progress on this mod in some time. I should probably explain why: Games Workshop hired somebody else to make a clone of it.

I am aware that I dont own the IP, so I cant really complain too much. Additionally, if I continue to develop DEATHWING, I risk being shut down by GW anyway, so its just not worth the time investment.

While I am really honored to be emulated, it leaves me in an awkward position. Do I continue to develop the mod, despite there being a fully funded title on the horizon, or do I look at making my own IP entirely. When I was making DEATHWING, I was hoping to be noticed by GW (being a huge W40K fan), and sharing my vision, we could have made the game together, on a large scale. But without even so much of a wink or nod, it was all underhandedly taken from under me, even the title.

I want everybody to know that I really enjoyed making this mod, and I really enjoyed the community response. I grew up with the 40K universe from back when it was Rogue Trader. I am glad it has come as far as it has and that others love it as much as I do.

That all being said, I haven't been sitting on my thumbs for the last 2 years. I have been hard at work at a completely new game and IP: Vector 36, due to be released Q4 2015. So if you enjoyed the relentless punishment that DEATHWING provided, you can get more of that here:

www.Vector36.com

Store.steampowered.com

Bit of a plug, but I think I have earned it.

Once again, thanks for your patronage, thanks to everyone involved. I wish it could have turned out differently.

Space Hulk: Deathwing came out and ended up having almost nothing in common with L4D2 (or your mod) other than being first person and having hordes of enemies. The gameplay is entirely different. It's weird to see that you claim you cancelled development of this because you felt like they stole the idea from you, when of course they're going to make games based on the IPs they own? It was just a matter of time before they'd make another Space Hulk FPS (the other one being SH: Vengeance of the Blood Angels).

Your mod easily could've existed alongside SH: Deathwing, and probably would've been a more enjoyable co-op experience than it since it'd still be using L4D2's foundation and gameplay mechanics.
