Steel River Games LLC is happy to announce its new sidescrolling shooter, Cosmic Predator is now available for PC and Mac OS. You can currently purchase the game at steelrivergames.com for $3.99, and it will be available on Desura and other online distributors in the near future.
Cosmic Predator is a sidescrolling shooter where players control a monstrous space squid who must continually feed to survive. The player's health meter continually decreases over time so he/she must continually collect the blood clouds enemy creatures leave behind when killed in order to stay alive, all while avoiding enemy attacks and environmental hazards.
Collecting blood also allows the player to power-up his/her Cosmic Predator at the end of each stage, by essentially purchasing new abilities with the blood collected. This slow increase in power throughout the game (at least compared to most other SHMUPS) is intended to get the player to make long term decisions that will influence gameplay strategies. And the wide variety of challenges (from squishy alien invertebrates to planet-stealing cosmic whales) ensures the player will need all the upgrades he/she can get.
