Updates to Justice in Unity: Redux's Change Log for the month of May 2018.

May 31st, 2018

  • Made the title screen a little more animated.
  • The menu cursor now changes color if Cheshire is the leading party member.
    • So does the windowskin’s cursors.
    • Also if Oliver is the leading party member, just in case.
    • And also if Emilie is. Because why not.
  • Updated some graphics and text in the Picture Gallery.
    • Evened out the resolution difference so the thumbnails are now aligned correctly.

  • Made the lights outside brighter at nighttime.
    *!! Added Moghunter’s Character EX script.
    • Added Moghunter’s Anti-Lag script.
    • Added Moghunter’s Picture Effects script.
  • Made minor adjustments to the controls for easier gamepad support.
  • Made TDS’ Pause Screen script do its work quietly.
  • Danced around a new mysterious issue by making Simon a follower instead of an event in one scene.
  • Added one cutscene graphic to “The Disappearing Act”.
  • Removed some unused scripts.
  • Adjusted the credits file.

*!! Added some MOG scripts, including an animated title screen, a menu cursor, a picture gallery, and new weather effects.

  • Also added Moghunter’s Event Sensor Range script, because it looks neat.

  • Added two cutscene graphics to “The Poisoned Diner”.
    • Added two cutscene graphics to “The Obsessive Valentine”.
    • Added one cutscene graphic to “The Fallen Sleuth”.

  • Added one cutscene graphic to “The Disappearing Act”.
    • Added one cutscene graphic to “The Poisoned Diner”.

May 25th, 2018

  • Built in a backup system in saving so that the issue of certain maps deleting save files should now generate a backup of the current save slot (if anything is on it) and replace the now-empty slot with that instead. No more losing old save files for saving on a map the game doesn’t like (hopefully)!
    • Worked out a bug that caused the player to not be able to save on an empty slot.
  • Added one cutscene graphic to “The Garden of Angels”.

May 24th, 2018

  • Windows now have different tints/lighting properties depending on the time of day (outside) and whether the lights are on (inside).
  • “Cases” is now “Elliot’s Cases”, and can only be opened if Elliot (or Simon/Miles) is in the party.
    • “Elliot’s Notes” is now “Cheshire’s Notes”, and can only be opened if Cheshire is in the party.
  • Updated “Paroisse Saint-Nizier”.
  • Added Zalerinian’s Input Simulator script (and made it not crash with NeonBlack’s Keyboard Input).
    • Disabled because 1) can be interrupted in choice branches but will continue in player movement (I blame a lack of compatibility with NeonBlack and Hime; I have like three or four keyboard input checks running and Zalerinian’s can only disable its own) and 2) if the game is closed during a key simulation the game will forever simulate that key for the specified amount of time every time a) the game window is made active b) the scene changes (aaand this one is due mostly to the Windows API, I suppose). NeonBlack’s Keyboard Input and Hime’s Any Key Pressed scripts are both more important to this game, so bye-bye, Zalerinian. (Love your script in concept, though.)
    • Tried to salvage by Frankenstein’ing Any Key Pressed into Input Simulator. Worked, but with the exact same issues. Disabled again.
  • Added “Elliot’s Basement”, containing a nice little “easter egg”-ish thing. :)

  • Began adding a(n extremely) simplified Texas Hold ‘Em “mini-game” segment. However, “(extremely) simplified” unfortunately does not extend to the code for it, which is a fucking mess.
  • Added some miscellanous sprites.
  • “The Case of the Royal Flush” can now be (more-or-less) completed!
  • Made the text for Dark’s dialogue darker.
  • Touched up some issues in The Royal Flush.
  • Began writing “The Case of the Obsessive Valentine”.

  • Added to “Cheshire Estate”.
  • Added a line of script to see how the game runs in a bigger window. Decided to switch to it because 640x480 is an actual well-known resolution, as opposed to the ever-strange 544x416.
    • Updated Khas’ Lighting script for new window size.
    • Updated RETCON’s Journal script for new window size.
    • Updated “Elliot’s House” for new window size.
    • Updated “Police Nationale HQ” for new window size.
    • Updated “Simon’s House” for new window size.
    • Updated “Peaches & Cream Cafe” for new window size.
    • Updated “Mattieu’s Suite” for new window size.
    • Updated “Luis’ House” for new window size.
    • Updated “Rillieux Warehouse” for new window size.
    • Updated “Hopital de la Croix-Rousse” for new window size.
    • Updated “Paroisse Saint-Nizier” for new window size.
    • Updated “Fantome d’Or Casino” for new window size.
    • Updated “Elliot’s Car” for new window size.
    • Updated Attract maps for new window size.
    • Updated “Crimson Cove Laboratory” for new window size.
    • Updated title screen for new window size.
    • Previously symmetrical maps are no longer such. Boosted asymmetrical maps from 20x15 to 21x15 to mask this, at the cost of the screen nudging from side-to-side upon player movement.
  • Raised maximum save files to 30.
  • Added some NPC sprite sets, including four “easter egg” NPCs.

  • Added some miscellaneous character sprite edits.

May 7th, 2018

  • Referenced Ruby Documentation to add language-dependent audio files. Dubbing is now possible.
  • Made some changes to the missing resource protector script so that instead of crashing when unable to find an audio file (the exact thing the script was documented to prevent), the game simply plays a blank placeholder file. Like a good game. :)
