With the next release drawing closer and closer, I thought I’d talk about the final polish and shine we’re applying to the world of the Goonrift. Generally in a lot of mods this process is done during the
development of the levels, however as we use third party deathmatch levels, these efforts to create a universal style have to be tacked on.
At first glance the Slazenger war is very random, many of you even ran away weeping. Sam Neill even described it as "A dimension of pure chaos". However, the plot is actually quite complex in its own way, a story of civil war, false gods, betrayal and the insanity that is the Goonrifts. We needed a way to give the player a chance to understand this world before dismissing it completely.
After playing Portal and Left 4 Dead I couldn’t help but take notice of the messages scrawled on the level walls, how they contributed to the story in a way the characters (or lack of) could not. This concept seemed perfect for the world of Spragoon, as it is deathmatch, so there is very little room to introduce any information with linear story line or in game characters the player can interact with.
The result of this concept executed can be seen below with some example screenshots from the level “snow bounce”, it is only a fraction of the detail included in the mod, you’ll all have to wait until the next release to see them all.
Overall I feel this method combined with the loading screens gives the player a more well rounded play experience. Stand by for further information on the next release
My queen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I won't be able to play this game without getting distracted by the walls. >_>
I predict nobody will play the game and everybody will stare at that wall.
