Yes your eyes do not deceive you, new D-day news post! It's been nearly a year since the last news post, this has mainly been due to a technical problem that blocked me from accessing the D-day website & forums, thus I was unable to post anything for over 10 months! Sadly during this time I was somewhat demotivated to work on D-day, I still made a few random units for fun but I didn't make that much overall progress tho.
Gladly now that the problem has been resolved I'm feeling refreshed, revitalized & ready to work on D-day again. So to kick things back into action I've made a set of generic buildings as well as a generic sidebar & loading screen. These graphics will be used as placeholders for where I have yet to make specific national themed artwork. Which can normally take months to just research & several more to make all the 3D models.
So with this set France will no longer be using those hideous grey boxes with "placeholders" written across them. It also means that the new countries of Poland, China, Sweden & Czechoslovakia that I have been slowing working on will be include as playable (but incomplete) sides in the next release along with Japan. These are of course just placeholders & each of these country will receive unique national artwork in a later release.
I also plan to make a set of generic defensive buildings as well in the near future & of course I still have a backlog of over a 100 units that I still haven't posted/added to the wiki yet too so expect more news to come soon.
welcome back
Glad you are back, this project has so much potential!
Wellcome back, happily waiting for more articles :D
Have I died and gone to heaven? The mod is once again alive!!
:D
EDIT: So, I do kind of have a problem with the visual direction of those buildings. They don't look particularly distinct from each other which may make them hard to distinguish which generally has a negative balance impact. The Power Plant and Construction Yard look the most unique from everything else. While the Radar has a bit of a problem because the Radar is hardly visible, but maybe it would be more visible if we saw its animation.
The idea for the "Supplies" is pretty strange. Just those singular handful of crates somehow gives you infinite boxes of supplies? At least with ore in Red Alert, it kind of makes sense because it's driling for it and bringing it to the surface.
Maybe for the Refinery add some kind of Silo-like detail, akin to C&C3;'s Refineries.
Maybe the actual Radar part for the Radar can be bigger.
Factory is completely lacking any distinct features and almost looks the same as the Refinery, right down to the back door to the left being in virtually the same place. Maybe adding some extra building protruding out slightly (that still fits in the building foundation) as like an "office" or "entrance" area, like how a real mechanic shop works.
Maybe there can be like a look out tower in the Field Headquarters. The overlapping nature comes off a little weird. It doesn't quite fit the style of the rest of the buildings because it makes it look vaguely Asian-inspired. Maybe make it more like the Armory, where it doesn't overlap like that as where they meet they end.
The Armory definitely needs some help as well. Maybe something like a small square, instead of rectangle which would make it look too much like the rest of the buildings, warehouse building attached to one of the standard buildings instead of the U-Shaped design.
Finally, everything needs a bit more color. Since this is italy, maybe throw in some rustic red and some grayish strips as though they're trying to show off the colors of their flag or something. Maybe worn down some as if it is chipping off paint. Just a bit of extra color like that can go a long way to making things look more distinct and stand out from each other.
You forgot to volunteer to help make these changes lol
I like how you're apparently not allowed to critique anything unless you "volunteer to help" or if you personally can't do better.
That's healthy and not obnoxious or ******** in any way.
As pointed out in the news post these are just temporary placeholders, as such I didn't want to spend a lot of time working on them as they will be replaced with better designs in the future. Because they will be used by several different sides they needed to be plain & generic looking too.
If you want to see what the building in D-day will look like when I put some time & effort into them go look at the Japanese ones.
The pile of crates spawning supplies will be/has changed (there are several variants & I haven't finished them all yet) to an animated elevator that brings supply boxes up from an underground bunker.
I do agree the Supply Deport and Factory are too similar, would be possible to give the Supply Deport the same roof as the Construction Yard? Something this Puu.sh
I think that wil make it different enough at a glace while keeping the generic design
It was my understanding that these were final (or close to final) for Italy, and only being used as placeholders for other sides.
I dont know where you got that impression, the Italian buildings have already been done for quite some time. See them here: Dday.migeater.net
They were made in Photoshop by hand as 2D images, I do plan to remake them in 3D & change their design a bit in the future tho.
I concede that the Supply Depot should be changed to look less like the Factory, I'll work on that in the next few days & post an update.
I have no idea why I thought Italy. You don't mention Italy at all and for some reason I thought that was the Italian flag.
Preview of the new supply Depot: Dday.migeater.net
It is not Italy. It's a substitute for the blobby placeholders in all factions that don't have their own buildings. (edit) never mind I should have scrolled down a bit.
Very nice update we got there
Also Welcome Back MigEater!
Welcome back!
Welcome back, commander. The modding community has changed quite a bit since you left.
Welcome back commander :p
Hi Everybody,
So I have extracted the files to my Red Alert 2 folder.
I believe the game is patched to the latest version, I also have bought the official game off Origin.
When I run the .bat file, I still only get the black command prompt and then it closes.
I would really appreciate the help. Thank you!
welcome back :D
and good luck
So is this mod still back from the dead or no?
Maybe no yet
When will the news about this mod be? I’m terribly interested in how its development is going, and I would be happy to help the project. And then it seems that he is dead again (
Hello? Anyone at home?
Is this mod still alive?
No(
