Post news Report RSS ASEToBin 1.0 release and more!

As always a lot of work has been done, but as you noticed we haven’t posted a lot on moddb in the last months. Many of the new features could be described in a single line or are hard to show (non-graphic stuff). I feel theres no point in making a new newpost for every single feature update but instead post them all in one large newspost.

last months. Many of the new features could be described in a single line or are hard to show (non-graphic stuff). I feel theres no point in making a new newpost for every single feature update but instead post them all in one large newspost.

Various updates:

InfinityAdmin worked on the audio engine: testing the great sound samples that got contributed so far, fixing various bugs and added support for adjusting the sound pitch dynamically.
In parallel he worked on a massive update of the particle system in Infinity. So far he was still using the same particle system from the
Infinity Combat Prototype (2006) and that lacked a lot of features he envisioned. Normal mapping particles in particularly is a very important feature, especially later to reimplement volumetric nebulae or volumetric clouds.
Furthermore InfinityAdmin migrated everything to Visual Studio 2008 and fixed some bugs with Normal mapping in the ASEToBin.
Also, a lot of work has been spent on collecting and filtering texture packsthat many contributors have made in the past years. They all have different styles and quality and some structure was needed.
Later he experimenting with rendering
dynamic cube maps and fixed logarithmic zbuffer artifacts

ASEToBIN1.0:

Last but not least the long awaited ASEToBIN1.0 has been released!
ASEToBin is a tool that is part of the I-Novae engine ( Infinity's engine ). It allows contributors and artists to export their model from 3DS Max's .ASE file format and to visualize and prepare the 3D model for integration into the game.

This new release represents more or less 200 hours of work, and is filled with tons of new features, like new shaders with environmental lighting, skyboxes, a low-to-high-poly normal mapper, automatic loading/saving of parameters, etc..

A change list and download link can be found here *click*!

I still have to say, the Graphics are so far stunning, but, as a sound engineer i have to say the sounds are rather poor, some are just freeware samples with some filters put over, at least thats what it sound like. :(

I have no idea about those sounds, but please feel free to give your opinion on our forums (so the devs can read them), and we are always looking for new contributors.

I once did asked for beeing a contributor, but someone thought they wouldnt need a sound engineer at that time or i wouldnt be good enaught or something. and since then, i lost my interesst in contributing.

So i just watch it, see what is becomes and sometimes say something.

If you want to contribute you just have to go to the contribution forum and post your work like everyone else does. Unless you asked to join the team (not to 'contribute') I can hardly believe someone would have said you can't contribute sounds.

Maybe it was joining the team, was around 2006.

Well i just wonder, i can produce stuff like the audio of EVE-Online, but that costs a lot of time, and with my current projects in mind, i dont think ill contribute, singel sounds are rather useless for you guys.

Ahhh man, your ship design choices are great, and your modeler does a heck of a job doing those designs justice. Your engine always blows me away too... keep up the great work guys!

All credits go to the contributors, most of them design and model the ships completely from scratch.

I don't really like space games but they always seem to have the best engines with the most amazing graphics.
Will it be possible to walk/drive vehicles on the planets?

does this game offer capital ship control or just fighters and trade ships i really would like to see capital ships as playable since fighter mmos are kinda played out imo.

Yes capital ships are in the game too and can be controled.

Fighter MMOs played out? There's almost no twitch-based MMO games and there's only a small amount of Space MMO games on the market...

Looks fantastic! Will there be other tools like this developed for Infinity community/fanbase/modscene?

I don't know what InfinityAdmin has planned, but I doubt there will be more tools released for the community. What type of tools did you have in mind?
Since the Infinity world is mostly procedurally generated tools like level/map editors are not needed. For the art assets we use existing software like Maya, 3DsMax, Photoshop,...
