'Lo,
L'Aigle now features bot-controlled artillery in the mod. This great feature was coded by the talented DrTomas (of 1257 AD fame). These guns and their crews can be recruited from castles and will also be used by AI lords. The crews will automatically load, aim and fire the guns and can be given basic firing commands.
Artillery was naturally a huge part of Napoleonic warfare, Napoleon's innovative use of which was one of the most important things that made his armies so successful for so many years. It adds significant new depth to the battles in the mod and force the player to make the potentially difficult of decision choose between engaging in an artillery duel, or attempting to silence the enemy's guns via an attack.
In these screenshots you'll see some French artillery (supported by a company of Fusiliers) battering an enemy force in submission. Naturally, every faction will have unique and historically-accurate artillery crews.
Over the next while I'll be posting some exclusive images of artillerists' uniforms on my twitter account, so check that out if it interests you.
Thanks for reading and following the mod!
Wow. Never thought i would see cannons in single player. Cant wait!
Twilight of the Sunking has cannons in singleplayer but these are gonna be even better!
How are they with bugs, though?
I don't follow.
I think he means "Do they have bugs?"
OOOOOHHH MYYYYY GOOOOODDD!!! Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this. How will they move? Do the artillerymen push them, or do you have horse carriages somehow? Or are they stationary? And how many men do you have as spare crew for each cannon? If one gets killed by a stray bullet, as they often do, it mustn't make the cannon useless because of lacking crewmen. Regardless, keep up the good work!
Presently, the guns don't move (besides rotating to aim). Warband's maps are not really big enough to justify the huge amount of coding and CPU power it would take to move them.
When one of the crew is killed, one of the spare men takes his place. If too many men are killed the gun ceases to function. Artillery was a very skilled job remember; you couldn't just get anyone to do it.
The crew comes free with the gun. The guns, however, are far from free.
Stationary guns is fine, the unpredictability of random maps was propably my greatest concern with this, but as i see you have already replied to this it seems we won't be having any trouble. I know very well the problems of coding a system like this, because i once did one for wc3. The biggest issue then was related to movement - i had to make the soldiers snap to the wheels while they were pushing the cannon, and them getting killed, knocked back or otherwise interrupted could cause some conflict and needed lots of checks.
In any how, i was thinking your artillery crews were looking a bit small, hence me asking. I would suggest at least 6 men for each cannon.
can u have more than 2 cannons in battle, when two of the cannoneers die third runs away, mod is great keep up the good work!
Great job!!! You should take into account that the battlefield is always random (it depends how close you are in hills rivers etc) so if it is most of the times hills and mountains that would be a problem. I hope to see a lot of plain!!
The second I would like to say is that the "Lords" should be replaced by "Marshals" for France, since in France you were uprised according to your abilities. In other functions Lord, Duke, prince , Marshal are fine.
Last but not least, when you create a character it would be appreciate if you give different options. For example Napoleon was a man who uprised without be a noble.
Thx!!
Technically, Napoleon was born of the minor nobility, thus the 'di' in 'di Buonaparte'. The Buonapartes had little influence or standing by Napoleon's birth, though.
You needn't worry about bad gun placement. The mod will use hand-made battle maps to replace the rubbish generated ones.
Amazing work!
Artillery in a single player mod? Like ice cream for my eyes
I love artillery in all games. This looks awesome
Watching
this gon b gud
If the crew is eliminated in a battle(but still win) do you lose the cannon or when the battle is over do they receive more crew?
Will their be horse artillery? without the limber, of course
the single greatest thing i have seen in an update this year.
After playing this mod I will be able to die a happy man.
Great. Now I want this mod even more, which I didn't think was possible before.
This is going to be amazing
when is this mod going to be released
That mod will be greater than Napoleonic Wars official! Vive l'Emperor!)
O_O. I never knew the game could do this
nice really cant w8 for the mod
This is great ! I would also say that you bring hope to the other M&B Wb codders with your wonderful ideas.
I would trade sexual favors for a release within this year. Haha jk, take your time and, it's already on the top of my watch-list. I really appreciate all the work you have put into this, it's outstanding! To me, it seems this mod is worth more than the game itself! Keep doin your thing man, because this is more than a mod it's a piece of gamer-art and you amount of pride you should feel is mind-blowing! Great job, 1000/10 from this paratrooper!
Best mod I have ever seen in progress should be great!! Keep up the hard work!!!!!
I check this page every week!! I have stopped playing Napoleonic Wars because even the thought of this makes it pale in comparison! This is literally the only game I want to be released EVER!!!
