Post news Report RSS Another patch is on the way...

We didn't want to have to do this, but we're going to have to release yet another patch. I know, I know, but this time around we'll make it worth your while!

Posted by on

It has come to our attention that there are still some critical bugs out there we'd like to address before we continue to develop the mod and add new features. So, we will be releasing yet another patch (v1.52) either next weekend or the weekend after to address these issues.

Fear not though, this next patch will include some new weapon reskins as well as some improvements for the Overlord gamemode. Some extras for server owners and mappers may make it in as well, so stay tuned.

One thing we've been working on is making a simple ladder entity that only player zombies can use (so_ladder_zombie) like the ones found in L4D.

Can you fix the official servers, I get so much server lag that I get kicked out or I can't do **** because everybody is skipping around.

Finding a server that is relatively close to you is key to reducing lag. Where do you live? Keep in mind that at the moment, SO is very server intensive and it is not unusual for there to be periods of lag here and there. "Fixing" lag on the development end is easier said than done.

I'm in Cali, and when I join the CA server, it still has people skipping everywhere.

Might be because of the amount of NPC's on the map that the server is lagging.

The primary source of lag in SO are the NPCs, yes. That being said you should not be lagging the entire time you are on the server, especially if the server is relatively close to where you're located.

Whenever I join a server I can't move my character around. If I try to move my screen shakes but I stay still. I don't think I'm the only one with this problem.

What version of Windows are you using? Do you own at least one Source game?

Does this problem occur on every server and every map? Have you tried creating your own server from the main menu via the "Create a Server" option? Have you experienced this problem or a similar one before in any other Source game or mod?

I agree. We've already sent numerous emails to Valve about this, but they have yet to respond.

After Smashball's disappointing release on Steamworks it seemed they shut down the entire modding community from using Steamworks. Echo, have you thought about using a simular system like SVN? Its not perfect as most people are not clear on how it all works but as updates come down all the players have to do is update from their desktop and not go through websites, you just put an announcement through your steam community group saying update is available. Its not automatic like Steamworks but its simular.

Well that's a shame. It doesn't mean we won't keep trying to get on Steam, though.

We actually already have a developer subversion up at the moment, but it's far from being ready for all clients. We thought about having a dedicated one available to players in the past, but we decided not to seeing as it would be rather complicated for new players to get working.

Wonder if you're fixing some of the spawnpoints? I was playing sv_cabin and spawned in the middle of some zombies. Sort of an annoyance, but wondering if it's a big problem and if it's being fixed?

Thanks

It'd be difficult to disable spawn points if a zombie is nearby, but I suppose it isn't impossible. I'll add it to my list and see what I can do.

Unless of course the enemy uses nightvision. lol ... but sv_cabin uses zombie NPCs anyway, so they'll find him with or without a flashlight. =P
