If you've been paying attention, you've probably noticed the mod's recent decision to basically restart... But if you were looking forward to the original maps, we've got a surprise for you!

Announcing: PFT Classic.

PFT: Classic is exactly what it sounds like. Over the past few weeks, we have been pondering the idea of releasing the original maps created for "Portal: Forever Testing" before its recent redesign, and (after careful consideration) the team has decided to release the old maps separate from the main mod.

In addition to the areas showcased already in screenshots, soon everyone can experience all four of the original maps in their entirety, aside from some story-related elements, which have been stripped out so as not to spoil or confuse the plot of the main mod.

In this release, everyone will also be able to experience our custom gameplay mechanic first-hand: the Aperture Science 4000 megawatt heavy-duty Abrupt Rejection button, also known simply as the "Rejection button."

"When / Where can I download it?"

If all goes according to plan, the maps will be released "very soon"- the exact date hasn't been decided yet, but it will be somewhere from today until Christmas. (which for scrooges and forgetful-people, is December 25th. ) Now decided: The maps will be released every-other-day starting today, 11/15/2020.

As for the where- the plan is to release PFT: Classic on the Steam workshop; however, due to the custom assets being packed into the map files directly, the workshop may not allow them to all be posted. If this happens, then plan B will be to release them as a download here on Mod db.

Plan B is in effect. The maps will be posted here on moddb.

"What if it isn't what I thought it might be? What if it stinks?"

There's no need to worry. PFT: Classic is an old version of the mod with minor edits to work better on Workshop, or otherwise as it's own separate map-pack. We aren't currently planning to incorporate these maps into the main campaign episodes of Portal: Forever Testing.

"What if it's awesome? Can I expect the main maps to be that way too?"

Yes, albeit differently perhaps. Custom assets are used very heavily in these old maps, but the main campaign will attempt to use only the ones which are most necessary. Color correction effects are also used heavily in these maps- this is something that, if it is done at all in the main campaign episodes, will be toned down significantly. There will be plenty to look forward to though! the main campaign is going to have a story, voice-acting, captions, developer commentary, and more. We cant wait to show you what Chapter 1 will give in store- we can't say when, but progress is going smoothly.

For now, though, stay tuned for the release of PFT: Classic sometime in the next month or so.
