UPDATE: Dates were just added to comments and the correct comment ordering in news / downloads was restored
First of all, let me say thanks to everybody who has let us know your opinion, pointed out bugs, or otherwise helped us through the launch. Your help is appreciated.
We've just rolled out some updates to Mod DB based on your feedback, so here's the good news:
Comments are back. Yep, every game, mod, engine and group now has comments enabled for it. We've also made sure all the existing comments are still in there, so nothing is lost. This is probably the feature we get the most questions about, so I hope you enjoy it!
In other changes, RSS links are now a bit more intelligent. You'll notice a lot of pages now have an RSS link in your browser (As long as it supports RSS that is), which now is directly relevant to the page you're on. If you're browsing a mod and want to subscribe to its news, you can now use your browser's direct method instead of having to hunt down the link.
Finally (And this isn't released yet, it's just an advance notice to keep you at bay), we are bringing back modWatch lists so you can see what you're watching, and who else is watching things. This update should be ready tomorrow, we're just in the process of flattening some bugs at the moment.
Upcoming features still include private messaging, forums, help wanted, topsites and more.
i want the controlpanel backt to work on my mods profile :'-(
i find no button to do this... and it would be fine if you could add a open login field somewhere in the navigation, that we do not need to click an blablabla ... thx
It looks like you were on a mod team, but weren't the person who registered the mod. Due to some updates (Read my blog for more on groups) you are no longer in control of any mods - but let me know the name and I'll give you control back. You can then add a group with the rest of the team.
Actually, scrub that. I've done some digging and re-connected you myself. You can now use the edit icon (It looks like a pencil) in your mod profile.
Hip-hip-hurray for the moddb staff reading and replying here and for integrating community pleads in real time. (also I'm posting a lot in pursue to level up on this forums, get higher rank and more points so i can take 2nd job... no wait, that is Rappelz :P)... yeah, in any case, don't let my egocentric-self promoting seizure black out my honest congratulations. So, as my sig says (I need to update it soon... darn, no sigs here :( )
Good luck in everything good
Yes we r watchin u! :D
/me puts on his tinfoil hat >_>
<_<
I'm starting to like V4, it's growing on me... OHGOD GET IT OFF!
Nice work guys. :-)
yay comments :) good job
Great work. Keep it that way. :)
The control panel works just fine. It's good to hear modwatch will be back soon.
Good job on the quick update.
speedy team ;) good work
Thumps up for good work. Keep the updates rolling. Comments for the win :D
It's a bit confusing having top-level comments reversed but threaded ones ordered normally. Also, get the timestamps back! :)
Varsity is quite right on that score. Makes things really hard to follow as they're not tabbed out or marked as replies very well. Things should probably go top to bottom, but then profile comments never did either...
If by "tabbed out" you mean indented, they are for me...
(Can we get a feed for our personal updates?)
I'll see what I can do
They're indented, but they're not always immediately obvious - especially when it's one reply in a sea of comments.
Aha, and now we're past level two they aren't indented any further at all!
In fact, I replied to Varsity, but my reply appeared directly above jacksonj04; who am I replying to really? How could I abuse this to make jacksonj04 look like a complete nitwit?
How about a system similar to the quoting we have in the forums (albeit done auto style). That works well enough.
And without timestamps, you can't even tell which order things were posted in. Yikes. :o
I'd like to see some sort of feeback over what comment I'm replying under. I've lost track of which reply link I've actually clicked, so I'll be rather surprised where this shows up. I'll also chuck it in a more appropriate place.
yay comments was looking for these things
The weird comment ordering is exploding my brain rabbits.
- where are the datetimes of the comments?
- why the comment text is only 50% of the comment box? I dont really care about user's avatar or huge white space around it, i am interested in the comment itself, why make more difficult to read by distracting attention with avatars? You know that eyes automatically jump to the high contrast elements.. makes it much more difficult to scan the comments quickly :(
- the word "replied" is not really needed... user name should be smaller thatn the comment itself
now its turning into a kickass site
I'm really glad to see that you guys react rather fast on the community feedback :D
GJ so far, keep it comming :)
(Btw, do news comments have pagination yet? Kinda long page already)
I'll add it to the todo list - I agree we need this one
im still getting some mod updates through the old site i can tell becse the forum is still linked with old site
Probably because people keep updating the "old" mod profiles instead of the new ones? ;P
Are we ever going to be able to edit our posts?
Most everything I whined about :)
the only things that are bothering me now is the lack of timestamps like everybody keeps saying, the inability to edit comments (for spelling mistakes or just rewording it so it doesn't sound douchebaggy), and the most annoying of them all right now is for my updates list. I like how it's all organized into categories, but i want to be able to select them all at once and delete them all instead of going through each and deleting em one by one. sometimes i get over 30 or 40 updates overnight, and that is way too much clicking, my friend.
Allrighty, I'll put some change requests in for these.
Shouldn't you be able to see when comments were posted?
The only thing that really annoys me is that i hate looking at the news and not being able to tell which game each news post is relevent to.
I don't want to whinge (we've got timestamps!), but "X hours ago" isn't anywhere near as useful as "at X:XX"...
it is as theres nested comments now and its handy to see when they were posted in time not a time stamp.
I'd like to see Groups having there own forums, just like mods did in V3, maybe you are already doing this when we finally get forums.
Also what happened to our emo's? Will these be added in comments at the same time as forums?
There should be a tab on the right hand side on members showing the ranks.
Also i wouldnt mind if you got rid of the feature where if you join a mod the has some games and mods on it that then those mods and games become yours, i.e there in your profile.
I have exactly the same problem on my mod's controlpanel.
It would also be good if you made it so the Xbox Live Name worked properly, as my name JarJar Moo doesnt work :(
What's happening with the Group - Mod connection?
It seems like, after I create a new group, to add a mod I have to create a new mod profile??? What's up with that? Am I missing something? Wasn't it said that linking between groups and existing mods would be easy?
Please help someone! lol.
go to your mod click edit then you will see a developer and you can select your group from the list, this links your mod with your group
Thanks for that TKAzA..! I is sorted now! ;)
I Still Think the Mod / Group Connection could be made much clearer on the profiles! Like... There's no way to tell of what Group is Affiliated with what Mod via the Mod Profile or Vice Versa... I just wanna link my Dev Team Group to my Mod so... Please say this is a temporary bug! lol
You know...I actually had a dream where I clicked the ModDB link in Firefox and V3 appeared...I was happy.
See what you're doing to me? You're giving me bad dreams!
one thing that would make things nice and smooth and convenient and just plain awesome would be for when you look at a mod's, or anyone's pictures, is when you click on a new one on the top, the whole row of pictures shifts and shows an even number of thumbnails behind it and in front of it. If youdon't know what I'm talkin about look at how gamespot's picture gallery viewer is set up and you'll understand how nice that would be.
Okay... I dunno if this has been asked before or not... But what is the story with "Influence"? How does that work? Why is mine always dropping the more I visit the site? My Mod, Team, Media are all doing well but this "Influence" thing really has me bugging!
Can I / We have some info about this please?? Thamks!!
