Post news Report RSS A Call to Arms - Battlefield 1918 is back!

Development of Battlefield 1918 has been resumed after 5 years of silence; upcoming 3.2 patch to focus on the eastern front and in particular the balkan theatre with new armies and some new weapons.

Posted by on

We are back! More than five years after the release of the last version 3.1, the development of Battlefield 1918 has been resumed.

Our current agenda is to release a 3.2 patch around spring time which will in particular:
- cover the eastern front, which until now is underrepresented
- introduce the forgotten balkan theatre, including new armies
- add some new weapons
- fix some known bugs and implement further minor improvements.

So far, we are on a good track against these goals. However, we also want task YOU, the community, for support. Anybody who would like to contribute to the development - for example as Mapper, Modeler, Skinner, Tester, or in any other function - just contact us. A comment to this news or a PM to me will do the trick.

Stay tuned for upcoming news which will present new contents!

A few of the new maps might also get AI support, but this is not sure yet.

There will also be improvements to existing maps, where deemed nessecary; you are always welcome to share your suggestions / bugreports! Cheers

Perfect! It's great to see this mod alive since it has much better feel than the BF1 which has too many automatic weapons and a lot of other things which shouldn't have.

Thanks; while we are no realism simulation either and do have some arcade elements as well, for sure the level of historical accuracy is somewhat higher in BF1918 than in BF 1, which seems to have more a Call of Duty style gameplay :)

honestly all you have to do to top BF1 is add some proper iron sights "HD models" + adding ADS for all the weapons like in BF 1942 ww2 realism mod, add some proper reload animations to said weapons, & then add some custom game modes / maps the community wants and tada BF1918 kicks BF1s *** any day.

hell with some graphical improvements here and there the mod could also even give BF1 a run for its money in that departments as well only with better gameplay

My thought exactly! It's not Project Reality or Forgotten Hope 2, but it's definitely more realistic than BF1 or other newer Frostbite Battlefield titles (not counting Bad Company since those games were pretty good, but I still like this mod more).

For me is already better since DICE have a lot of money since they are with the EA and they just do mostly a reskin of BF4 like they did with the Hardline. And yes, there are some rifles, but in WW1 over 90% of the weapons were rifles. It wouldn't be much of a problem if they do a WW2 game with all of those submachine guns and machine guns since they were much more widespread in the WW2.

The main thing which I would want in this mod is mostly some better animations, Iron Sights and new maps.

Thanks for your comment. Could you explain what ADS for weapons is? I don't know this ww2 realism mod and didn't hear about the phrase before in modding.

The thing with the iron sights to my knowledge has always been pretty dificult to implement in a BF1942 mod. Are you aware of any mod where they could find a good solution to that?

Reload animations would be a nice-to-have indeed; however I fear we might not have the manpower to do that, since this is a pretty difficult task. However, I will keep it on the radar.

You should try it: ( Moddb.com ) It's one of my favorite mods even when it's very small. It adds things like Iron Sights, better visibility, vehicle wrecks stay for multiple minutes and a lot more.

you also might want to look at what this community has been up to as it is still pretty active in the 1942 mod scene. They even made BF2 PRs Mumble VOIP proximity voice chat work for 1942 0_0

You welcome!

That's interesting! I hope that they will have their page also here on Moddb because it would be much better and easier to track it.

the project is still alive just not as active as it used to be since that community is primarily working on their own steam green light game called Iron Armada which is kinda a 2D cross between Faster than Light and Space Engineers. But rest assured community devs and team managers are still working on the PR 1942 project often posting updates on their forums.

I see.

That's interesting, but I would like if they would focus more on the Bf1942 since it could really use some more mods.

It's great to see this mod resumes development, although I would like to see the entire changelog for documentation purpose.

And since 3.1, I notice that most of reloading animation for bolt-action rifles were too fast as well as out-of-sync of animation and sound while reloading sniper rifles.

This sounds awesome. I think you should add as much coop support as you can to this while your at it though because full or partly occupied coop, let alone conquest servers, are kinda rare and I'd hate to see this go to waste :(

Thanks for your feedback! If possible, we will also work on further COOP support. However, please note that on trench maps and in detailed environments Bots are rather unable to operate. Cheers!

YES! It's awesome to get a new update. But if you get a mapper, could you make some small map. To better accompany the small player base. Thank you for updating this game and please don't stop!

Thanks for your feedback! As already done in the past, also the new maps will be rather small and head-on-head in order to forster intense battles also with rather limited player numbers

The currently

Battlefield 1918 3.1 Mod

contains that all, ships, tanks, flys (zeppelins). Different terrain, isle, africa, cities, woods, gas, sea, trenches fight, air fight... All what you need for make a good war. The Soldier command voices are awesome. You will never find a second game in that way.;)

Unglaublich schön zu lesen das Bf1918 weiter entwickelt wird. Ich würde mich gerne als tester melden und habe noch Kontakt zu einigen anderen Spielern von früher.
