The Zone of Alienation mod is an adaptation of the renowned AMK mod. It is built on top of a specialized variant of AMK that uses a magazine system. From this premise, it has expanded to aim to include the following:

I could write an article specifically about Monolith, if you guys would like me to.

I made Monolith have question marks instead of a sure answer because I don't have any particular weapon in mind with them, I just plan on giving them just about every type of weapon under the sun, and any caliber. I may even add randomly generated loadouts just for them.

Monolith are by far the most disorganized faction in the Zone. Even Loners have more sensible use of equipment, and they're not even a true "faction."

On the outskirts of the brain scorcher they just use whatever they scavenge from those that wander too close, yet starting towards Pripyat, then the CNPP, and the Sarcophagus they begin to become more organized and better equipped.

It would be cool, if monolith scumbags would attack you with knives in the underground levels... They have wall-hacks anyway and you are outnubered, it sucks when they are using powerful guns there... Besides, this would be some sort of amusement. You know, meat just keeps coming at you while you try to headshot them. They are fanatics after all, as EvilElmo23 pointed out.

Why is the 870 only used by experienced stalkers?
For that matter why is the AKS-74U and MP5A3 found so early in the game?

I think the keyword here is "progression". As you progress through the game you find better equipment - artifacts, weapons, suits. In some games you level up, in others it's done differently.

AKM is a reliable and powerful rifle. It wouldn't look out of place in the hands of a rookie given its relatively high availability, but it would spoil progression a bit. I tend to stick to assault rifles, so I'm content with having to wait some more rather than having one straight out of Cordon.

So, FatalFunnel, where's SKS? :P

It's perfect as an ulterior rookie weapon, also for bandits. Would you be able to implement stripper clips with the mag system? Or maybe it could just feed directly from the ammo stack.

About elite bandits, I have a feeling they would probably carry expensive western stuff (like in vanilla I think?) as symbol of wealth, just to show off. Also if I recall correctly the criminal subculture I think they're loosely based on En.wikipedia.org used to be in starkly anticommunist, so a fascination with the west and western stuff might apply. Of course the rookies are ok with the cheap local stuff.

At the moment I have some novice stalkers carrying around SKS's and maybe one out of 5 that carries an AK-47.

Sid sells 7.62 AK's, they're half the price of the 74 variants sold by other traders. He also has an AK-74 in stock, but it's twice the price for what barman sells it for.

I plan on writing in an event where he drops prices for his 5.45 guns and opens up a better selection to the player.

Dark Valley will probably be one of the places in the Zone that is most 7.62x39 heavy, since many of the bandits there use it, and some of the stalkers that spawn there are supposed to use AKMs too.

At the moment I'm trying to completely re-balance all pistol calibers, I made big changes to AP earlier today.

You're not supposed to open, you're supposed to extract with 7.zip, although you may know that already.

In any case you may have had a problem on your end, I just downloaded it and extracted it, started a new game, works fine.

I feel like I just wasted valuable time to prove a point, although I suppose not, since it's testing, after all.
