The purpose of this mod is to provide a full experience of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl that fits the originally envisioned game yet vastly improved in the use of weapons, difficulty in finding food and medical supplies, and the required use of a planned combat load-out and use of tactics in order to survive in the Zone.

What I have tried to convey in this mod is a sort of quality or emotion that this game uniquely brings, it is difficult for me to really capture it, but the best way that I can describe it is that is a grand sense of isolation and helplessness. One of the reasons that I chose the name Zone of Alienation, is not just because that was the term used for the exclusion zone, but also because it describes this unique feeling of powerlessness in a land that is unremittingly hostile. I remember once, standing under a bridge during a pitch black night with the rain pouring down on either side, not knowing what waits beyond in the wilderness, not having anyone to trust or rely on, not having anyone to tell my family that I was killed in the Zone, not having anyone to stand and watch while I can sleep semi-safely, no one else, at all.

Anyways, here's an overview of Zone of Alienation's features.

Weapons

  • Weapon magazines, you can no longer simply reload your weapons by pressing "R." Instead you need to pre-load magazines in a safe place before entering combat.
  • A new ammunition mechanic, ammunition now has two categories, fresh ammunition, which is boxed and is only found at traders or in stashes, and individual rounds which can be scavenged from corpses.
  • Accurate descriptions for weapons, ammunition, and weapon magazines.
  • Realistic damage and bleeding that more or less forces you to avoid direct encounters with enemies and instead use clever maneuvering to eliminate them piecemeal.

Sounds


  • Improved sounds for weapons
  • Improved ambient sounds

Weather

  • A fully dynamic weather system from STALKER Weather Overhaul that creates the feeling of changing and living environment

Difficulty

  • The enemies you encounter in this mod use different weapons than their counterparts in vanilla use. Expect to come across heavier firepower, earlier in the game, and defeat it despite overwhelming odds.

Independence

  • Zone of Alienation is built on top of the much-praised AMK mod, which allows for a much greater degree of freedom in the Zone because you can choose where to place your own stashes, and where to sleep. One of the best ways to enjoy this mod is break off from the standard fare and find your own haunts in the Zone.

Visuals

  • Zone of Alienation is one of the more visually-pleasing Shadow of Chernobyl mods, it uses Absolute Nature, and Absolute Structures by CrommCruac that stays true to the original look of the game, yet is updated to modern graphical standards.
  • I have also spent a good deal of time hand-crafting textures for various armor sets, some of which are based on actual Russian and Ukrainian camouflage patterns, and also some Western patterns.

Planned Features

  • Irradiated food
  • Moldy, spoiled, and contaminated foods and medications
  • New radiation system that includes a sickness effector that will reduce the actor's fighting capability
  • Plague, the possibility of adding mutant-borne communicable diseases that can infect the player, and visibly-sick varieties of mutants.

Yea, sickness idea looks good. But it should apply to NPC's too... They could carry some symptoms of a disease... unable to run or walk fast, very poor aim and low HP... constant nagging of being wounded or something... An entire new animation group could be created for this idea. Cure for diseases could be rare, too. And if there were multiple kinds of diseases... Some deadly, some just leave you in strong drawbacks... Or better yet, if you get deadly disease, you must obtain cure in few days. Wow, seems like ideas are endless. Ill just shut up now.
