ZombieMod takes a unique approach on the Zombie Apocalypse by putting it in the perspective of a military commander, not a survivor. Since it is 2 years after the first infections, resistance on the east coast is organized, resulting in battles rather than small groups fighting for survival.

Report RSS New Year's Update!

At long last, the much anticipated Christmas/New Year update has arrived!

Posted by on

Fans! Happy New Year! We here at the ZombieMod team hope that this one is healthy, prosperous, and full of zombies! For this update, we are pleased to present the layout of the survivor faction and the units that the survivors can produce. Let's begin, shall we? Hover over the images below for a brief description of the units.

TIER 0 - Field Command:
Builders: The basic engineer unit of the survivors. Can only construct structures and defenses, cannot repair vehicles.Recon Team: Basic reconaissance unit, able to move quickly and scout out positions. Very weak in combat however.
You will start out with the Field Command and one Survivor squad. From the Field Command, you can upgrade to the other tiers, build defenses around the building, and spawn Builders and Recon Teams. All tiers can be purchased independently of the others, so you do not have to go to Tier 1 first.

TIER 1 - Central Command Liason:
Survivors: The main fighting force of the living is composed of Survivors. Able to be specialized to handle most combat.
The Central Command Liason Post allows you to build the Survivor squad. It also has a healing aura around the main structure, making it valuable for wounded survivors. It can also be upgraded to have defenses, and can also act as a first aid post, picking up wounded casualties. Late in the game, it can be used to decontaminate infected survivors IF they get there in time.

TIER 2 - Specialized Infantry Post:
Police: The Police squad is a doctrine specific infantry squad. It functions as a support unit for the Survivors.Police Chief: Acts as a leader, making infantry better able to fight in combat and gain experience quicker. Outdoorsmen: Able to use their experience in the woods to scout ahead and move through unfamiliar territory easily. Hunters: Acts a team of sharpshooters that are able to act similar to outdoorsmen in scouting. Also able to camouflage.Vehicle Crew: The vehicle crew can repair vehicles and can utilize abandoned military vehicles such as the M1A2 Abrams.Combat Engineers: Able to build defensive structures that normal builders cannot. Also can repair buildings and other structures.
The Specialized Infantry Post gives the survivor players access to specialized units based on a choice of three upgrades: Civilian Strength, Police Strength, and Military Strength. For example, if a survivor chooses the Civilian Strength upgrade, they can spawn Outdoorsmen and Hunters. These upgrades act independently of the doctrine choices, so you can upgrade to fill your team's weaknesses.

TIER 3 - Armory:
Explosives: Give your units the capability to throw explosives to help eliminate hordes of zombies.Molotov Cocktails: Give your survivor units the ability to throw molotov cocktails.First Aid Kits: Give all infantry units first aid kits to heal on the field.Gas Masks: Give infantry units gas masks to prevent infection via airborne strains.
The Armory gives you access to upgrades to improve your squads, making them more potent throughout the match. The Armory requires both Tier 1 and Tier 2 buildings.

In addition to these units, the survivors have access to the doctrinal infantry:
SWAT Team: Elite Police team.Fireteam: A squad of Army infantry. Royal Marines Infantry: Elite British infantry.Canadians: Soldiers of the Canadian Army.Bundeswehr Infantry: German infantry.Russian Paratroopers: Elite Russian infantry.

These are the current infantry units available to the survivors, and we do not expect them to change too much from how they are now. See the video that goes along with this update to get some more information and to see them in action.

Last but not least, ZombieMod now has spread it's reach to the social media part of the internet! You can follow us on TWITTER and FACEBOOK. You can also see the links to these pages on the main information section of our page here.

We hope you enjoyed this update, and we can't wait to share more!

Do you not think civilian strength would be the hunters and such?

Also, shouldn't Canadians be darker and a bit more mottled like the Russians? They seem very bright in these pics.

Whoops, good eye, you are right.

And yes, the canadians will be reworked later on, they are fine for now.

So how will the zombies destroy a tank?

Maybe they all rush the tracks, getting stuck there and then climb on top of it and eating the crew xD?

I don't think they can, I just remember burtondrummerNY saying that the tanks are a very demanding unit, they need lots of fuel which is a rarity and they need a tank crew aswell so you have to get a tank crew and send them to the part of the map where the neutral tank is, climb inside and then get to refueling station every now and then to keep your tank working.

If i am correct, choosing the Strength doctrine for the zombies allows a special unit alot like the Left 4 Dead tank?

@Jesus: Correct
@Havoc: Perhaps, we haven't really laid out the zombies too much.

Hello. Im looking forward to the release of the mod. Since we haven't heard that much about the zombie faction, i have some ideas for some abilities for the Zombies:

"Zombie hordes" (or something like that): The zombie faction will get a huge permanent boost to the pop cap. Fight agaisnt the horde!

"Disaster": Instead of costing manpower, each "Standard" Zombie squad will GIVE a manpower bonus. The more Zombies the enemy has, the more he can get. Stop the disaster before its too late!

"Zombie hordes" (yes, something like that..): Works like the upgrade for PE, where each "squad" recive some extra units. Makes it possible to field enormous amounts of zombies. But 1x10 unit squad cant flank - only 2x5 can do that - so it wont allways be the best thing to do... (and again: Only applies to "standard zombies")

"A man only dies once": "Standard Zombie" reinforcements are free. Simple as that.

As you maybe already have guessed from what i have written above, i hope the zombiefaction will base around masses of slow walking zombies, slowly closing in.. I think its the most scaring type of zombies - but thats just me. I hope you will find some inspiration in my suggestions.

Cheers

Nope, these are VDV, not special forces.
VDV - Vozdushno-Desantnye Voiska. As in Airborne Troops. So it's correct.

Man, this place is full of nitpicking douchebags! Instead of you 14 yr old armchair generals / amateur programmers crtiquing the mod before it comes out, why not just let the guys work on it and see how it goes?

That being said, can't wait for the zombie concepts :D
