Certain Yuuzhan Vong spacecraft will require a special shipyard which can only be achieved by destroying a planet...

Just do things the russian way: destroy your own property and retreat, leaving nothing for the enemy to use

EXPLANATION:

so our Yo'gand Core coding project has been our most ambitious challenge yet. We have had half our team dedicated to working solely on this for over a year now. Thanks to initial scripting solutions by Smallpox, we knew it was possible to solve. Our newest team member, Kad_Venku, has pushed the project even further. Kad (senior programmer) and Wariscool (lead coder) have been working tirelessly and finally solved this incredible coding challenge.

Yo'Gand's Core:

In the novels, vong agents would grow a very specialized and powerful Dovin Basal on a planet surface. This DB would then use its extreme gravitational power to pull a moon out of orbit, colliding with the planet destroying both. From the remains of the explosion, a Vong Shipwomb would be born, a massive ship foundry for creating Vong capital ships.

In the video, the creation of the building will be replaced with an icon for a Dovin Basal. When the DB is finished building, the Vong owned planet will be sacrificed and destroyed. After the explosion, a Shipwomb space station will be built. While the DB builds, a global countdown will appear to notify the enemy of its creation. Specialized hero characters will be required to be moved around the GC map to locate the DB and eliminate it, similar to how a bounty hunter searches for hero targets to kill. This will be a terrifying tactic for the Vong, for they will have the power to capture and obliterate planets from the Galactic Map, leaving less re-captureable locations.

Thank you for all the efforts Wariscool and Kad_Venku, this is a monumental achievement.

All of that sounds amazing but will the AI be smart enough to actually send an agent hero to stop you?

Kad_Venku sounds like a Rebel Alliance name :)

It always felt odd to me when it came down to destroying habitable planets.
But I suppose it would be too easy for Vongs simply to destroy a barren rock with no signs of life which would give them a massive advangtage in EaW.
Am I right?

With the Death Star it was a difficult choice to destroy a world. For the Vong, it is the only way to create the Shipwomb and build capital ships.

That's why I always wished to further alter a planet's data for after it was destroyed. It doesn't exactly make sense that a location keeps most of its characteristics and bonuses after being turned into a fresh asteroid field. (And that fleets keep battling for it to be king of the rubble.)

Well with our new Diplomacy System, for the Galactic Alliance to get any thing useful out of a planet, ground structures and embassy's have to be constructed and a few other things... So essentially destroying the planet is a massive loss for the Alliance as nothing of any major use will be available. For example, if Kuat is destroyed, their shipyards will also be destroyed and only a small mining/ research colony will be able to be built

That will be quite interesting...

So I'm assuming the Alliance and Hutts are going to have a similar mechanic for destroying planets-

The question is- will there be significant penalties or consequences for destroying a planet for the alliance? Or even letting the Vong destroy said planets?

Yes, yes and yes, follow our progress and all will be revealed in time.

Wariscool has been doing some amazing work with his Diplomacy code.... ;)

Description

A little teaser of some of the capabilities of the "planet death" mechanic. This will eventually be used for Yo'Gands Core if you own the planet. It will begin a global countdown time which the enemy can see, once the timer ends....
