Report RSS How install Alamo importer/exporter for 3dsMax

Developer Diary 1 : Alamo Import/Export for 3dsMax8

Posted by on - Basic Other

1. Install EAW. Patch it to 1.5 patch. Reboot. Run game.
2. Install FOC. Patch it to 1.1 patch. Reboot. Run game.
3. Install 3dsMax 8. Download and install service pack 1, 2 and 3.
4. Download petroglyph importer and exporter plugins.
5. Place alamo2max and max2alamo .dle and .dlu files in the plugins folder inside of 3dsMax8 program folder. Place the max2alamo.ms file in the 3dsmax8 scripts folder.
6. In max, run max script and select Alamo2max to import a .alo file. Upon first time running script, you will need to designate folders where models and textures are located. This does not matter later.
7. To save a .alo file, choose file/export/ and from the drop down choose ALAMO (.alo)

This allows a person to be able to open a .alo model into 3dsMax. It is important to follow these steps in order. We have wasted the past 2 days trying to "relearn" how to get the exporter working. Max must be installed and patched up to sp3. EAW and FOC must both be installed and patched. The map editor must be installed and the fx files copied to max maps/fx folder.

There is lot that is involved with editing a model, such as shaders, textures, bumps, collision mesh, shadow mesh, hardpoints/bones, animations, particles, lights, and code.

The purpose of this tutorial was just to explain "how" to get the importer/exporter working-- a problem which has plagued many.

This installation was performed on a computer with Windows XP Professional 2002 version Service Pack 3.

I just spent the last week learning how to port alo models to Sins mesh models. Since Max 2013 is way too new, I had to use something else :) I sure have learned a lot the hard way and I can see how easy it is to get stuck on stuff like that for a day or so. I feels ya man.

Why aren't you using mike.nl's manual? He has made the tools and his manual is quite complete, you know?
Modtools.petrolution.net
You can find at this web page all tools created by him and how to install and use them. By the way, it's not a "petroglyph importer", it's a mike.nl-importer ^^

These days its only possible if you find an old Max 8,9. It´s not working for Version 2016.

But it is possible to get a student version of 2016. Then you download 3ds Max 8 or 9 and paste your serial code in if the program asks you to do so. That worked for me. The Service Packs are still avaiable on their Webside.

I save the service packs on my Computer and on an external device so even if they put away their patches so we can still mod EAW :)

Does this works with 3ds Max 2017? Or I actually need to have 3ds Max 8?
