They are the non-moving engine particle. When the ship is in movement, glow is pronounced and extended. Our mod has targetable engine hard points. If you destroy an engine, the ship has movement reduced to only 10%. In order to have this hardpoint, and have the effect of ship speed being reduced when HP is destroyed, a particle is needed to be used. That particle is reduced and muted in appearance when the ship is not moving, which is what was captured in this screenshot.
Whilst applying debuffs based on destroyed hardpoints isn't a problem per se, the amount of hardpoints and ships doesn't make it a viable option, which is why the engines use the vanilla mechanic.

Wait you were able to apply debuffs to destroyed hardpoints? Or does it only work for engines because of vanilla engines.
