So a new carrier version of the Roik, this will be the hero capital ship for the vong faction in skirmish. More health, same weapons, more and stronger fighters and passive ability to heal other ships.

Also: the new PBR SHADER on display showcasing the amazing detail created by its enhanced shadows

Do you still need to create custom shadow meshes?
Does it address the infamous z-buffer issue, where polygons on top another would start to clip and flicker if zoomed out?

we are creating shadow meshes just as normal.
z-buffering?.... not sure what you mean by this? We have custom shaders for the lights and blastmarks that remove all flickering, and our Z-layer script is different than what the other mods, so that we have no issues with it.

When i looked at the Roik in-game, and zommed in and out, it is probably our most detailed texture ever created when zoomed in, and there was no flickering when zoomed out noticed

"Does it address the infamous z-buffer issue"
This by itself is an inherent problem with the rendering engine, and on its own not solvable via shaders.
We managed to work around the problem via shaders, but it's a hacky solution at best.

"Do you still need to create custom shadow meshes?"
Yes, otherwise objects would not cast shadows on other objects.

But neither of these points are really related to changing the shader algorithm to a PBR based implementation, but closer to a re-write of the rendering engine, which we, for obvious reasons, can't do.

Description

A modified version of the Miid Ro’ik, the Carrier Adaptation featured more hitpoints and launched more advanced fighters than the standard Miid Ro’ik while also providing a passive heal ability to any nearby allied ships.

Featuring also is our new PBR SHADER shown yesterday. The Ro’ik’s texture really came to stunning 3D life with the new PBR effects since they are further enhanced by highly detailed textures. When cast in indirect light, the shadow play and bumpy hull of the Ro’ik comes amazingly to life as every little rock appears to cast a shadow....

This thing is just so much fun to look at.... we have come a very long way since our first Miid Ro’iks made back in 2005

Model, UV, textures, shaders, and a whole lot back breaking work and team support to create this by Revan, Doci, Strobe, and support from rest of the YVAW TEAM.
