Using the Lusankya as a ram is a waste of it's power.

Wedge went back to his roots and forgot that a super star destroyer is a thing that must be saved at any cost, not destroyed like a death star or the tarkin or any other superweapon.

Tactically and strategically the second battle of Borleais was a victory against the Yuuzhan Vong. Their youngest and most active world ship was destroyed at the cost of only one super star star destroyer, and the pilot of that SSD even managed to escape. Nothing like piloting the biggest one man fighter on a kamikaze mission and surviving.

I agree. SSDs were very powerful, but they certainly weren't unstoppable superweapons. If Arvel Crynyd (either the luckiest or the least lucky A-Wing pilot ever) taught us anything, they look a lot more impressive than they actually are. Worldships, on the other hand, were irreplaceable (the SSD might have been too, but the resources required to build one could be put to a lot better use building several smaller, more versatile capital ships) but they didn't have any convenient weak spots, and they packed a lot of firepower. So Wedge traded one above-par capital ship for destroying an extremely valuable enemy resource, not to mention a major boost to New Republic morale. I think that was an extremely wise decision on Wedge's part.

you have a good point, but I look at it like this. The Lusankya at that point was not in great shape, having fought actions of varying size and scale for several weeks. she was worn down to the point where it was considered more advantageous to strip her of her armaments and use her as a Fire-ship than to have her sit in a crowded dry-dock either waiting for repair or overtaxing the already thin resources. remember, only flight leaders and above in Rogue Squadron, the elite of the elite, were granted a full load of torpedoes.
when it came time to run, she was used to provide a rear-guard action by driving straight to the heart of the enemy fleet. every gun focused on Lusankya was one less that could be used against the retreating forces. that she took out a worldship in that last battle alone justified Wedge's actions, let alone the countless other vessels Lusankya destroyed before her last flight.

Lusankya was also damaged beyond repair due to the first battle of Borleais, this was a contributing factor to the decision.

The Vong were coming again, with stronger force, the ship was crippled, the Alliance had to make a move, fight or flee in order to survive.

Not really, the SSD was just a big target and was worn down by attrition and constant fighting. They didn't have the facilities to repair Lusankya, so they shipped all the useable military stuff on to other warships, while fooling Domain Hul into focusing on the Starlancer project

Smallest but deadliest. I guess size matters not in these matters. ;)

A massive size for a torpedo? I would say that maybe the size of a Nebulon B or maybe a Carrack cruiser.

Yeah with the size of Domain Hul and space everything, I would say a size about a Corellian Corvette...maybe a Nebulon B.

Thinking of torpedoes, will there be the Yuuzhun Vong space worm that sucked people off of the Jubilee Wheel? I forget which book it is in Agents of Chaos I maybe

That will be fun. How often do you feel like the NJO gave you too many goodies to work with?

Description

Although the youngest and smallest of all deployed worldship The Domain Hul is deadliest one. Because of its youth it was able to actively participate in space battles. But one of those battles was fatal for it-the second battle of Borleais. It was insidiously rammed by the desperate Republic forces with their SSD Lusankya, sort of a Kamikaze attack...
It will launch a massive grutchin torpedo against the enemies of Yuuzhan Vong. And a qustion appears: what is a massive size for a torpedo?
thanks for your ideas
