Faster than a TIE interceptor, but slower than the A-Wing, the A9 was short range mass produced fighter to fulfill the ranks of depleted starfighters. While never accepted as a true replacement for starfleet compliments, A9's were part of the KDY solution of cheap production units for quick deployment. Lacking shields and weakly armored, the A9 compensated with fast speeds and heavy armament, often being deployed in mass to overwhelm or deter attackers. The A9 was armed with 1 heavy red laser such as those used on the B-Wing and 1 Imperial Green Laser such as featured on the TIE series. These fighter craft were most notably deployed from the KDY Republic Cruiser and KDY defense installations such as the Golans and Orbital Fleet Traffic Control Stations.
