The Xenoforce Reborn mod takes the classic Xenoforce mod from CNC Generals and re-invisions it on the CNC3 engine with new units and new designs. The new armies that are currently scheduled to be in the mod are the Earth Federation, ZEON, the Invid, and the Earth Robotech Defense Force. We also have heavily modified the original CNC3 armies, giving the GDI, NOD, and Scrin a much more dynamic gameplay experience. This mod is NOT FOR PROFIT and NON-commercial based.
So I have been working for 2 weeks on this 1 thing, this 1 simple GDI wall thing. I wasn't happy with any of the walls that I was coming up with, they all seemed to be either missing something or just not look right. The last version that I posted up is a good example, it was almost there but it just didn't look right.
Now look at this one. It actually forms into a wall shape, not a bunch of tubes that the old one did. The wall has a lot of sparks and special effects going on that cause it to have a very cool static look when in motion. Finally you get 3 of these high end anti-infantry watch towers that are easily seen but they still fit the roll.
Tell me what you guys think. My only concern now is that it may lag some systems, especially if there are a few of them up and running at the same time.
nice, looks a lot better then the previous version (which to be honest was painful on the eyes)
Honestly, I am not sure about these spark effects, they may even cause lag in large maps with lots of other GDI players.
Yoda589 - Thanks, that was my opinion of the old wall too lol. Thats why I kept working on it, trying different things.
Val - If it does cause lag it's because there is a lot of effects going on the screen at one time, so if it's not on the screen it shouldn't cause lag. Also these barricades take a LOT of power to run, 3 non-upgraded power plants, and the effects do turn off if the player loses power so there is that at least. I guess the only thing we can do is try it and see how it works. At this point I don't think I can make it much better than how I did it here.
Upon playing with it once I hit 3 Barricades the game becomes really slow with them all on the screen at once. I'm working to see where I can cut effects / things out so I can at least get 3 on the screen at once without any noticeable lag on my work machine.
For reference the work machine is a Core 2 Extreme 6800 with 4 gigs ram and a Geforce GTX 8800 512 meg card. Yes, it's an old setup but it's a laptop and it still runs pretty much any game I want it to with little to no problems. If this machine can run it other peoples machines now days should have no problem.
keep up the good work, bro.
Thanks, things have been going slowly these last few weeks, there was a death in the family so not much free time to work on the mod. I hope to be able to get back to work within the next few days, have to get those GDI structures / defenses priced and speced right.
