The sole purpose of this mod is to make Battlefield 1942 as realistic as possible to WWII, not sacrificing realism for balancing or to make it less boring, while trying to keep the action of thousands of soldiers with a relatively small number of players. There has been and will continue to be much research involved in creation of this mod. Because this mod is heavily focused on keeping it as real as possible, I expect it will mostly capture the interests of WWII enthusiasts rather than hardcore gamers. This is my first mod and I have learned very much in the short time I've been working on it, and I look forward to making this possibly the most realistic mod ever created for BF1942.
Here are the new ship exhaust and cannon effects. The cannon effects aren't as good as I'd like, but still much better than the original effects and good enough for release.
i think the smoke is abit of an overkill...then again i've never seen a real battleship in action so i could be wrong...
I can't find much WWII-era naval photography/videos to give me an accurate idea of the smoke, some seem to not have smoke at all and some look similar to what this screenshot shows. Any help (backed with evidence) would be appreciated to make it more accurate.
My grandpa was on the USS South dakota and he says the smoke varys on ship to ship destroyers had more smoke than battleships due to the fact that the funnels are smaller thus making mroe smoke and battleships less. id say take off about 1/4 of the smoke that you ahve in this pic to make it accurate
the easiest and most common way to find a ship was to see the exaust, since it reaches up so high, you can see it while the ship is still over the horizon
