It's been years in the making, and God knows it doesn't feel like nine years since I started modding. I started Westernesse in late 2012 with some crazy intention of having a release mid 2013, and of course that didn't happen, but it seems that every time I did something, I'd have to fix the bugs surrounding it, and just manage to get it in game. But even now, nearly into September 2015, it feels like nothing has happened, and in a way that's true. The truth is that Westernesse is an awful mess, with none of the new assets in game not working due to unexplainable errors that nobody knows how to fix, and for the last half a year I've been struggling by with the semi-functional tools I've got. I think it's time to call it quits now, since I'm off to university to study this type of thing full-time, and while I've lost no interest in finishing Westernesse, I've come to the realization that it's just too far gone now, and that I will never be able to complete it.
I'm grateful for all the support you have all given me, and I'm sorry for those who awaited a release, but I think the time has come to say farewell.
Namárië.
So after ... a fairly long hiatus, Westernesse is back with both the good and evil structure model basics finished!
I thought it was about time I made some activity around here, so ask away!
Here are the working maps from Westernesse, Minas Ithil, Minas Anor, Aglarond and Angrenost, which can be used simply by placing the unzipped file into...
im very interested in this mod the images gave me a hope for this game again...but i want to know more about what are u planning about the old factions men elvis etc... and what are the changes basically?
Elves and the Men of the West (ie Rohan and settlers in early Gondor) have been combined to make the Annûndili, and Wild and Mordor with elements of Isengard have become the Orc faction, the Dûrchîn.
That sounds AWESOME
Okay, just realized I've screwed up a little. Elendili is the faction based on the faithful Numenoreans, but also merges Gondor settlers, early Rohirrim tribes and part of the Elven faction, whereas the Annûndili is the Northwestern Elven people, of Rivendell, the Grey Havens, and the Undying Lands. Apologies for the confusion.
I really like how's this mod going on and its setting. However, I would have a small critic to make - Morgoth should wear the Iron Crown with the Three Silmarils (no matter what shape he takes). As for its shape, there is a vague description:
"...a mountain that wades in the sea, and has its head above the clouds, and is clad with ice and crowned with smoke and fire, and the light of the eyes of Melkor was like a flame that whithers with heat and pierces with a deadly cold."
You nailed on his size, and i somehow like the monstrous-style you gave him, but try adding the Iron Crown and make his eyes glow fiery.
EDIT: Don't make him hunch-backed because that gives the impression of slavery/servitude (orcs, trolls, wargs, all these servants are hunch-backed).
On the contrary, make him straight and proud, as he was. But keep the monstrousity, I like it.
Yeah,he needs Three Silmarils,He should be like Monstrous man
Bear in mind that, whilst Morgoth appears on all the Orc heraldry and seeps as an idea into Númenórean society, his place as an active character in Westernesse is very limited, and his major influence is as an overhanging shadow and a dark puppeteer.
To answer your point, however, it is indeed correct that Morgoth wore the Iron Crown, however he lost the Silmarils before his exile to the Void. Given that, I'm not sure giving him the Silmarils on a crown would be a fair thing to do, if you're looking for lore accuracy. Further, to answer your second point, I believe his abandonment to the Void would be a perfect place, alone with the thoughts of rage and hatred in such empty solitude, to breed a blackness of heart that surpasses the need for might. Rage and hatred are the things that ruin those who bear them most of all, and in such a state of contempt, I don't believe there would be much left of characteristics of virtues such as might or pride, stripped away by the consuming barbarism of vengeance, that corrupts all sense of self in place of a burning desire to ruin.
Morgoth, in my conception, is not hunchbacked out of obedience, but for the place of carrying such hatred in a vacuum there are costs, asking where we would find the pride or majesty of the greatest angel lost in purposeless rage?
Irene, I have a little question about ships... (hope there is no answer in erlier posts, because I'm too lazy to search)
Sure, naval warfares are not a big part of this game, but I don't think any of ingame models fits for Aldarions ships (Eämbar, the "Sea-Home? Not really, right?) or Ar-Pharazon's fleet.
Do You have anything that could make this great mod even greater?
I was thinking about that, but Irene should know better.
One of the things I disliked the most in BFME2 was that three factions each had identical ships, especially when there was such scope for invention for each faction. Thus far, the idea of ships has been a part of what I've been thinking in the back of my mind, and I have an idea that each faction, Black Númenóreans, Elendili, Dûrchîn and Annûndili, will have its own four individual ship classes, with perhaps corsair or Dunlending ships as a hazard on some of the coasts.
Yeah,i like the idea with Neutral Ships on some maps.Just scouting and pillaging so you need to protect your base on the coast!
Okay,Irene what do you need? Can't wait to start working here :D
Good for you! 2 great mods started to work together its like greatmod+greatmod=EXTRAORDIANRYPERFECTMOD!
Thanks :D
