An update on the work on the mod that has been done/it's being done lately.

Posted by on

Hello everyone, Warsword Conquest fans and lovers, here I am again, bringing you the latest news about the mod's status!

The mod keeps growing and growing, bigger and better, from every update to the other as we've been showing you in these past two months. But is that all we have for you, dear fans?

HELL NO!

Of course, we've been posting screenshots about the new features announced in the previous update, but that it's not everything we've been working on lately, as some things cannot be shown with screenshots, or simlpy they're being worked on even in this very moment.

So here it is, an updated list of what you'll get in the next release, summed with the features already mentioned in the last update:

- NEW SCENES: As you should have understood by now, an important part of the next update is going to be the introducion of new custom made scenes for a lot of cities throughout the Old World. All of them are made by our master scene-crafters Jargon Darot and Captain Melon.

- NEW FACTIONS: Yes, you already know that Beastmen and Kislev are going to join the faction rooster in the next update...but here comes the big bang badaboom news, we have a third faction for you. Say "Hello!" (or better "Welcome back!") to Nippon! (thanks to Phlpp from Gekokujo) At the moment we're thinking about positioning Nippon in the New World part of the map, between Dark Elves and Lizardmen, so prepare yourselves for some blood spilling in the western lands.

- REVAMPED TOURNAMENTS: Now in tournaments there'll be specific and appropriate mounts and weapons for the different fighters, based on their native faction.

- REVAMPED SEA WARFARE: The title says it all, in the next update there's going to be a new and solid sea warfare system (thanks to the Brytenwalda team).

- HUMANITARIANS AND CULT MASTERS: Aren't you tired of freeing prisoner paesants from enemy lords only to get a useless and weak troop that would probably die in the next battle? Don't hide it, we know you are. That's why we've introduced these new characters. Their function is to exchange the paesants in your army with military recruits. They're going to be found in taverns.

- REBALANCE AND TWEAKS: You've all being noticing problems in the balance of some factions, and we noticed them too. Long story short: Dwarves, from now on you'll be working as hard as the others to earn your victory (they're going to be nerfed in some areas of their troop tree and their equipement); Bretonnians rejoice, for you'll be something more useful than just infantry meatshields for the cavalry!

- NEW FIEFS FOR THE ALREADY EXISTING FACTIONS

- NEW SPECIAL AND MAGICAL ITEMS: I think you should check those Wizards, you'll find them down at the tavern...

- FACTION TAVERN KEEPERS AND MERCHANTS

- NEW MERCENARY MERCHANTS

- PLAY AS A CHAOS DWARF, SKINK, NIGHT GOBLIN OR HALFLING (not guaranteed but we hope)

- DIPLOMACY (not guaranteed but we hope)

.... And that's pretty much all for now, and a good explaination for the next release being still without an estimated date of release.

HAVE A NICE SUMMER, AND BEWARE OF CHAOS RAIDING PARTIES!

Sounds awesome! :D Cant wait to play it!

Will Cathay be added in a future edition, to make the entire Warhammer world?

We actually never thought about Cathay, specially with more "inland-ish" factions that could be more easily implemented as Vampire Counts or Wood Elves....which doesn't mean that they'll absolutely be in the mod in the future, but surely they are more probable and possible than Cathay :)

Omg, why does this post contain so many annoying extra-comments? :| Holy **** i imagine that the guy who wrote this article is a very hyperactive person. I miss the professionality of Del, to be honest haha Anyway, i'm glad to hear that you're working with the Gekokujo team, is one of the best mods for Warband out there, that will help to improve your mod for sure.

I am a writer, hired by Del and the rest of the team to bring you news and answer your questions....still I am a writer mainly, and I hate writing boring update logs because they are abitually impersonal and unattractive...but since the mod is something made for fun to bring you fun, let's make even update logs a little funny ;D

I wonder how sad Awerlord will be after reading this... Though I'm sad too because bretonnian man-things will no longer be walking meat! D: And wait, new magical and special items, does that mean that us Skaven get some magical/special items that those wizards sell? Because I think that us, Chaos and Orcs have no special items that those wizards can sell!

Will the next update be available for the latest version of the game? 1.167? Does having a higher version of the current released mod stop me from being able to play it? ( I know its a dumb question as it would most likely be no but in the off chance haha )

Why is Nippon placed in the New World exactly?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
polloio Author
polloio - - 3,977 comments

Here come the reasons behind this decision:

- We absolutely don't want to waste the opportunity of having this faction in the mod
- Some users showed love for Nippon in the past weeks, and we decided to get it back...but placing them in a place like Albion or anywhere near the Old World should have been stranger than placing them in the New World
- There is a wide blank space in the map between Dark Elves and Lizardmen that needed to be filled
- Having another faction in the area could be a solution for the Lizardmen and the Dark Elves declaring wars but not fighting them (when the enemy is at your door, you fight or you die)

So, it's not a casual thing but both a practical and precious (another playable facion for you to enjoy) solution :)

Nippon?? Awesome news, not including that faction was a huge opportunity that GW missed by not bringing it into the universe. Samurai/Ninjas make everything double awesome.

Oh yes, Diplomacy, please!!

Diplomacy is not confirmed, as I wrote in the update, but there are plans for it to be in the mod and for a rework and adaptation of it (even this is a HUGE "maybe") to better fit the mod's Warhammer environment.

Are you gonna fix the Lizardmen ai? they are by far my favourite in the warhammer universe, but they dont seem to attack their enemies and just stay on Lustria.

Reply Good karma Bad karma0 votes
polloio Author
polloio - - 3,977 comments

Actually that's not an AI problem, but a reaction to the fact that they are too far away from the other factions and surrounded by strong bandit parties. We hope to fix this problem by putting Nippon near them, so this should give them a valid reason to fight :)

Yes, are special (and very expensive) items and armors (a lot are already present in the mod) that you can buy from Wizards in the taverns after you give them 5 Tournament Medals

Will we ever see Ogre Warlords faction? We have the Ogre models already, as well as some followers. I think that opening up the Dark lands would add some awesome new and big content to the mod. Seems like it would be an industrious update, but would be soooooo cool. With a darklands update you could add in the Chaos Dwarfs and Hobgoblin slaves, as well as maybe adding some black ork troops to it. You could also add in the Nomadic Hobgoblin tribes, which would be a kind of a return to form with the khergit or Mongolian horse nomads. AND THEN... you could add in Cathy! Which would be a really cool place, seeing that we will by then have trade boats and sea warfare. This is all kind of ambitious, but I am sure you guys would be up for it at some point! I think Nippon would sit a little better on the world map as well this way, but all of this is just food for thought. Love your guys work, absolutely phenomenal! I wish Paradox would just hire you guys to make a Warhammer inspired mount and blade game lol.

Ogres as a faction are impossible to implement as they would be too OP.

Reply Good karma+1 vote
Surebert
Surebert - - 72 comments

In traditional tabletop, ogres are extremely expensive units that you really can't have that many of because of how many points they cost, thus they have a much smaller unit base (Not to mention each unit probably eats more than 10 men do). They are very strong and but not super versatile, only having a few heavy artillery and heavy cavalry units on the field, these units are more of the "quality over quantity" anyways. The Ogres also don't have very good armor, trading high health and extremely quick movement speed over protection, they pretty much rely on one thing, hitting hard as hell. They don't have shielded units and are huge, so any type of ranged units will demolish them (dwarfs), and really the most elite units can actually use mounted saber fangs, which would probably require the highest mounted skill possible. I think that an ogre kingdom is much more plausible in mount & blade then you would think. Also incorporating gnoblar units would pretty much semise for their lack of cheap throw away cannon fodder and varie out the army, kind of like the skinks do for the lizard men, but more ****, otherwise the ogre armies would be unfathomably expensive. I think you guys should definitely look into it, shooting giant cannons and eating baby humans sound pretty fun. And you guys also already have the units in the game, so it seems like it wouldn't be to bad including them in, seeing that they have a positions like the other factions in warhammer universe.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Not to mention, they're kingdom is relatively small compared to other factions. So starting off with less land and lords would compensate for their armies even more.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Surebert
Surebert - - 72 comments

And I meant to say Mournfang Cavalry & more advanced Rhinox Riders. Although it would be extremely interesting to include Sabretusks into the game as a sort of quick striking shock troop, I have never heard of having "dog" like units in mount & blade. Having Thundertusks and stonehorns as available mounted units for lords and heros would be fraking amazing as well. Giants as rare mercenaries would be absolutely awesome as well. I am getting extremely excited over this right now, xD.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
polloio Author
polloio - - 3,977 comments

Yes, we could make them expensive (as they already are) but there is a little problem: AI lords can have as many soldiers as they want, because they have virtual unlimited resources, and this with ogres would mean the destruction of the balance in every possible manner.

Would you like to find yourself assaulted by a 150 or maybe 200 unit consistent army of rape machines?

Because that would happen on in-game daily basis to everyone if we had the Ogres as a faction.

Reply Good karma+3 votes
Surebert
Surebert - - 72 comments

Yeah, I mean if AI lords have unlimited resources I guess. I thought that AI got money through theirs economy and got soldiers like we do. If that's not the case, then idk what they were thinking when they made this mount and blade lol, thats kind of crazy. I was thinking that there might of been some way to alter the amount of units a specific faction could muster up, but if they have unlimited resources and there isn't a way to change that, then there really wouldn't be a possible way to have the ogres in there... sadly

I really love this mod, keep on the good work ! With it, it makes Warband the best Warhammer game ever made and I'm not sure even "Total War : Warhammer" will do a better job...

The addition of Kislev, Beastmen and Nippon factions is great news, Kislev in particular was greatly missing, the kislevite culture being so different from the one of the Empire.

There is another human faction that really feels lacking when playing the game, it's Estalia ! That leaves the whole Estalian peninsula as a lair for bandits and renegade mercenaries instead of the busy trade region it should be, is there any plans to fix that please Polloio ?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+3 votes
polloio Author
polloio - - 3,977 comments

Actually, the Beastmen are going to occupy the Estalian peninsula, as we could not build a proper Estalian faction (same problem as with Tilea: too fractioned, too particular, impossible to be represented within M&B Warband's boundaries), so expect some jolly bloodshed in that area ;)

Reply Good karma+1 vote

I think Tilea and Estalia are better represent by number of minor factions that normally fight amongst themselves but will form alliances if need to fight against a major faction

The problem with Vampire Counts is their mixed troop tree comprising of three different "races": Skeletons, Zombies amd Vampires.

Getting it to work would mean to preclude the player from using all the faction equipement available and advancing on the troop tree, as you would only be able to use the equipement made for your race (zombies cannott use the equip for skeletons and vampires, vampires cannot use the equipement for skeletons and zombies and skeletons cannot use the equip made for zombies and vampires).

So, when enlisting in an army, you would be able to only play as certain troops, because those troops not belonging to your race would give you unusable armor, leaving you naked on the battlefield :S

Going to add another vote to the Sylvanians here. Every time I check back I always hope someone will add them in, even if it's a submod. Honestly wouldn't even mind being unable to fully advance up their troop tree or if they were a really minor faction, just really sad they aren't in.

And how about making three diferent troop trees in one faction? I mean that when you recruit new troops in village, it would give you randomly soldiers from zombie tree, skeleton tree, or vampire tree. I know that it isnt much realistic because Vampires in Warhammer have obviously higher status than zombies and skeletons, but it could be solved if the chance for skeletons and zombies would be for example 40% and for Vampires 20%. But i never saw that in any other mod, so i guess that my theory is just impracticable.
