We're in the process of making the Custodes a playable faction. We aren't in a hurry to finish it since it'll take a long time, so even its beta won't be released anytime soon. However, we'll try our best to make the mod worth the wait considering that a lot of models are going to be custom made by us. SO, having said that, now for the breakdown of our mod: Every mod should have some kind of unique feature that sets it apart from all the other ones. Not only are we making this mod as close to the lore as possible, but also, to give the player a feeling of having fun. Over 80% of the units will not be squads since the Custodes are usually individual warriors. However, there are rare occasions where they must fight together in groups. Custodes are to Grey Knights what Grey Knights are to normal Space Marines. The Adeptus Custodes are extremely powerful, yet come in very small numbers. The aim of this mod is quality over quantity. There will be compromises for such a high quality faction.

As I mentioned in my last article, this mod is highly complex and complicated as far as quality and detail. Whether it is a simple infantry unit or a relic unit, each unit in Dawn of War is a work of art. It takes time and a dedicated mind, motivated by the desire to be creative in order for any mod or game to be successful. Our team would like for this to be highly successful by getting your feedback and enjoyment. Remember, we are enthusiasts, meaning we are nonprofit. We are doing this out of our own kindness for you as the consumer to enjoy, relish and play with.

Now in regards to the mod itself, it is FAR from done. I know, there's the big shock huh? But seriously, we are in absolutely no rush to put this thing out there yet. We have a long way to go before we amass the confidence to release the mod publicly, but it is in safe hands and keeping of our team. We have secured this mod to be of our own, as in, the one and only. It is a mod that is in a category/class of its own so we do not have a desire to compete or to challenge other mods in a contest. Our team has the creativity motive and the mentality of achieving something great for the community, not so much as to toot our own horn.

There will be much content put in it. We are hiring professionals to voice act and to do other spectacular things for this brilliant modification. There are even possibilities of us getting VA's from the "If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device" series. But I find this as a bit of a spoiler, yet, at the same time, tasty news candy. We shall do what it takes to make this mod a professional masterpiece and as professional as it can possibly get. It is to be forged with remarkable craftsmanship, with a team that has the endeavor of making you all wow and have a blast. Impressing the players with a unique faction style, amazing detail/art, and the very faction itself and all of it's unparalleled qualities could not be a better accomplishment for us in this effort.

We will of course in the future consider recruiting eager volunteers/dedicated modders that have a knack or taste for what we are doing. If someone or anyone proves to be of some use, be it little or much, it is all the more splendid. The more, the merrier.

The models in the image gallery are placeholders for the upcoming polished and refreshed models that will be done behind the scenes. We're also on the lookout for other models that we have been notified of that we could use with consent. As of now, we are working on the tech tree, battlefield spotting, and some mishmash with the mod's spreadsheet stats and more. And starting next month, things are to kick off and get much more interesting.

Well folks, that is pretty much what is going on and all that we have currently. Stay tuned for what is to come next. Hope you enjoy and until next time, cheers and Happy Memorial Day to all of you in the U.S.A.

ALRIGHT. Thought I might give a bit of some current info about what you can expect from this mod. To make it fun for the player, balance is assured to fit in for Vanilla Soulstorm. Things will be more fundamental and compact and not too many troops to choose from as compared to the initial plan at first. There is beauty within simplicity.

Anyway, the Custodes troops themselves will all be elite heavy infantry but they will have a low stock of health to compensate for their enormous strength and potency in battle, as well as their defense bonuses.

They come in few numbers, but work well in groups. They are high quality units, incomparable to even late game units in terms of versatility. What is known about them is that they are to the Emperor what a Space Marine is to a Primarch. By comparison, a Custode is to a Grey Knight what a Grey Knight is to a Space Marine. However, there will be weaknesses applied to this faction and many other compromises.

For instance, in terms of Space Marines, namely, Tactical Marines, their role is as a frontline battle unit. These guys are the bread and butter of the Astartes, for they are best used collectively as a team or squad, the backbone of their Chapters and used offensively like a blunt instrument.

The Custodians are more accustomed to fighting alone or on some occasions, as a pair or small group. They are actually meant to be defenders and honor guard, hence why they are the bodyguards of the Master of Mankind's physical body.

You may be thinking; aren't these guys supposed to be badass demigod-like unstoppable warriors? They are not truly an army of massed produced soldiers bred for only warfare like their inferior Astartes counterparts. Instead, apart from them being far more difficult to make and so rare, they are assigned to operate as agents, assassins, and guards, meaning their priorities lean more towards protection and security rather than going into the thick of things fighting fire with fire.

They should never be thought of as pursuing individual agendas at the cost of one another. Each simply chooses a manner in which he fights according to each of his own individual talents or skills, rather than say a group of tactical Astartes fulfilling the exact same battlefield role within a squad. In this way, no two Custodes ever fight on the battlefield in a similar manner as one another.

Each Custode is a valuable asset in both the lore and even for this upcoming mod. You can expect much out of them. These guys all have Terminator Honors, so they are veterans. They are tough units to each of their own, even much more powerful than Grey Knights, but they can still be withered by tactics employed by other enemy factions. Because of their specialty in engaging and killing units up close, including commanders, there is a drawback for this.

There are a few enemies that the standard troops of the Custodes struggle with or simply cannot defeat, despite their supreme battlefield adaptability and confidence. The Custodes are not so self-assured as to believe themselves suited for every single battlefield task or situation. Siege warfare such as artillery and high-intensity zone mortalis operations, or attritional warfare, all provide the Custodians with a worrisome possibility of casualties.

And for beings as precious as the Custodes, all possible steps must be taken to avoid this. That would generally mean they often evade the types of operations mentioned above, as it would be admittedly, a terrible waste of their time, skills, and resources. Therefore, it would be best to leaving the destruction of those enemy fortresses or footslogging infantry advances to the general combat counterparts like the Sisters of Silence, or by lore, the Astartes, Imperial guard, etc. But of course, the upper Tier Custodes are better and more suited to these situations.

Remember, the Custodes have never been front line soldiers that the Space Marines or Imperial Guard are. Rather, they are bodyguards. They are a highly specialized formation, intended to be deployed only by the order of Emperor himself, and because of this, only in the most dire of circumstances would they be needed to aid in a conflict. Basically, these guys are the Emperor's trump card to what appears to spell out doom for his forces. The mainstay of the faction is to imply that tactically, the role of the Custodes in a battlefield setting is a rapid strike force, granted with the use of the most ancient weapons and sophisticated armor, technology and aircraft in the Imperium. None of their weapons, vehicles and wargear are seen, nor used anywhere else outside of their own, for only they are worthy to use it, none other.

Speed and mobility are paramount. The Custodes if taken by a transport should be ferried to the part of the battlefield where their skills are needed most. So there's the tactics of the troops of the Custodes and thank you for reading. I'll post other hot content at another time. Cheers.

Honestly, it's hard to say. It varies from time to time. Some come and go for their reasons. Either way, it's not something to worry about. We've got this thing secured. :)
