Virax Gene mod for Half-Life 2

The year is 2007; the world is on the brink of destruction. The threat of a nuclear war has escalated over the months and seems inevitable. In response, the United States Secret Weapons division has created a special gene, capable of altering physical and psychological structures. Once injected, this gene becomes a top priority in the cellular system.

This new weapon was first introduced against the Koreans. The jungles proved tactical terrain when deploying the gene, as combat in the bush was more difficult. The gene transformed induced soldiers with effects like insatiable hunger and inability to think things through. It became worse; the radiation from constant Sub-micro nuclear missiles transformed the gene into something more horrid. The gene itself was made out of artificial elements, in exception to iron, which drastically mutated when exposed to radioactive activity.

This new strain of the gene was lethal. The victim's mental state collapsed and soon attacked anything it encountered, including friendly forces. The gene's self-independence made the resulting creature immune to most forms of damage. The heart was no longer used to pump blood; the body instead devoured the blood of other people to satisfy their needs. The metabolic rate is highly impressive, being able to digest every particle of material that enters the system within minutes, leaving behind no excramentory remains. The brain and nervous system is brought down to a more primal level. The victim suffers heavy damage to the cerebellum, meaning that its motor functions are greatly hindered. The nerves found in the skin, have withered, and no longer functional in conclusion, no pain. Improved experimentation has found that high temperatures make the skin nerves react to make the creature flee however. Fire, is the most effective technique.

People slain by these monsters will remain dead for a short period, but the gene transmits itself through ingestion or upon finding a break in one's flesh. It could take up to 24 hours for the gene to totally corrupt the body. No antidote is known to exist. However, cancer treatments are being theorized. Experts in biological warfare agree that through the correct application of radiation treatments, similar to curing a cancer patient, could be used if the gene is isolated, and then it could be properly destroyed. Once it has 100% taken over the body, it is too late. Extermination of the gene would prove fatal to the patient. It would be like destroying all the entire red blood cells in the body.

The game starts off in the city of Glendale, Arizona. An attack of the zombie-like creatures has erupted after the remnant of Korea and its allies have optimized the new form of radio-active gene. You wake up after a piece of debris hit your head from a nearby explosion. Your name is Alex Banks. You don’t know what is going on, except outside of the rundown hotel your in, all hell is breaking loose. Screams of terror and noises of bizarre beings concentrate through out the night. You can hear something coming up the stairs, slowly and oblivious. There’s an empty beer bottle on the table...
