The Fate of Medusa

With the USA and NVA completed in the Pegasus and Hydra release respectively, many people are starting to ask the question, "When will Medusa be released?" For those unfamiliar, the Medusa release was to include the Viet Cong as playable faction.

After doing much research into the Viet Cong, we realized the VC would not be able to have enough units to support a separate faction. We decided to make the VC a sub-faction of the NVA and add the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Viet Nam) as a sub-faction to the USA. The sub-faction would act similar to how the generals are for Zero Hour, only going much further than adding a special unit or structure to the main factions, in fact most of the faction would have been made up of these sub-faction units.

The Mobile Guerrilla Force (MGF) and China were soon added as sub-factions as well.
The idea was the player would pick NVA or USA before the game started, then once the game began, the player could pick if you wanted to play as the main faction or sub-faction directly from the command center, unlocking the choice of the main faction or one of the two sub-factions available for each side. We felt this was a neat game mechanic because the player would never fully know what the enemy play style was going to be.

Design documents and unit lists were made, even some gray models were created. The M50 Ontos was gray modeled for MGF and the MIG19 for China (pictured below.) Things were looking up, but people began leaving the team, got jobs, or they dropped off the face of the earth. We decided to focus the remaining team on finishing the NVA models, but it was rapidly apparent there was only one person that was left to do all the art - ScreamingCricket - and only one person left to do all the code and scripting - AntiSocialKindaGuy.

Screaming with rage, shaking his fist at the sky as lighting arced across the heavens, the rain poured down, ScreamingCricket gnashed his teeth as he swore he would finish the NVA Hydra Release. As AntiSocialKindaGuy sang dirges of lament, they got to work. 3 years later Hydra was released.

It is apparent to finish any part of Medusa (and to do it right), it would take years. It's already been almost 7 years to get to this point, and that's a long time to work on anything! For the years it would take to finish Medusa, who knows if anyone would still be around waiting for it. No - it's time to call it done, to call it finished. So with that, we are Officially Scrapping Medusa, we are cutting the gorgon's head off.

This doesn't mean we stop supporting the mod or fix bugs. We plan to continue supporting it, just not full fledge production. It's time for us to enjoy our free time again. But don't be surprised if M50 Ontos or the MIG19 make it into a future patch for Hydra...

Well I loved the mod. Especially Hydra 2.0. Yet the NVA base construction mechanich were a bit complex and the AI was like medium on ease. Still a great mod!

To the developers of this game:
Hey y'al it would be amazing if this mod is still under developing, I love it so much. Been expecting for Medusa since 2010.
