Story

The story of User Error is about a character named Jeremy Powers who works at fCon, shortly after their takeover of ENCOM. Jeremy is having financial troubles, and decides to use his position at fCon to do some espionage in order to make enough money to pay off his debts. A former Russian agent named Karl offers to reward him handsomely if he will risk entering the computer by being digitized, and retrieve the fragments of a top secret file. Gathering all the fragments proves much more difficult than Jeremy originally thought, as his continuing adventures demonstrates.

Mod Details

User Error is a Single Player expansion for the PC version of TRON 2.0, that was originally released seven years ago. It featured 5 levels created by Meatsack. Meatsack teamed up with LDSO to create 11 additional levels for the expansion, bringing the total to 16 (including cutscenes). The most recent version of User Error has released the original 5 and additional 11 levels as two separate parts, now known as User Error 1 and User Error 2.

New to Version 1.1a of UE1 and UE2 is bug fixes, widescreen support (when used together with the Killer App Mod), and the fact that the missions are now self-installing. All you have to do is run the self-extracting program you downloaded to extract the installers to your desktop, run each one, and follow the on-screen instructions.

TRON 2.0 and User Error will work on
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10 (32-bit and 64-bit).

It is recommended to install and play through User Error 1 first, then install User Error 2. As you install each part, it automatically becomes active the next time you run TRON 2.0. So after finishing Part 1, if you install Part 2 and start a new Single Player mission, you'll be playing Part 2 instead.

You cannot load any saved games from Part 1 when playing Part 2. But at the start of Part 2 you will be given everything you need (weapons, subroutines, etc.) so you don't have to start over from scratch.

To confirm a part of User Error is installed and active, when you start a new Single Player game you'll get a new User Error mission. As a bonus, if you installed the Killer App Mod before User Error, you'll see a new animation on the Main Menu that will instantly let you know User Error is working.

Remember that while the mod is enabled, you cannot play Multiplayer online or load any older Single Player saved games. You must disable the mod again. You can disable the mod by clicking the "Custom" button in the TRON 2.0 game launcher and removing the X from the checkbox.

User Error Parts 1 and 2 - ModDB Download link
User Error Screenshots

Today, our team is releasing another update to the Single Player add-on: User Error for TRON 2.0 on the PC. Note that, despite TRON 2.0 being an old game, it will work on even the most recent versions of Windows - including Windows 7 and 8 (32-bit and 64-bit).

What's changed in these updated missions?

Here are some of the more important changes you can expect in v1.1a of Parts 1 and 2.

  • CHANGED - Gold colored ICPs and the various color Kernels in User Error 2 now have energy shield armor and discs that match their own color, instead of shields and discs always being red.
  • CHANGED - There are now Gold Launcher type ICPs in addition to Regular ICPs.
  • CHANGED - User Error 1 and 2 are now compressed with a 7-Zip self-extractor. This resulted in a significant file size reduction compared to compressing as a .zip file. (Down to 62 MB.) Also, the self-extractor prevents people from trying to run the installers without extracting first (running inside the .zip), which would often result in error messages when attempting to install that way. The extractor will extract the installers to the desktop by default, where they're easy to find. But, the program also offers you the choice of where to extract it.

  • FIXED - An issue with the setup programs caused installation to fail on Windows 8, and sometimes even prior versions of Windows. This has been fixed.
  • FIXED - Other minor fixes.

How do I use the Mod?

User Error 1 and 2 are self-installing now. All you have to do is run the self-extracting program you downloaded to extract the installers to your desktop, run each one, and follow the on-screen instructions. The installation process has been made as automated and painless as possible. REZ Handler is no longer necessary to install these. User Error should work on any version of Windows going back to 98, but was tested on XP/Vista/7/8 only.

It is recommended to install and play through User Error 1 first, then install User Error 2. As you install each part, it automatically becomes active the next time you run Tron 2.0. So after finishing Part 1, if you install Part 2 and start a new Single Player mission, you'll be playing Part 2 instead.

Can I load my saved games from Part 1 in Part 2?

You cannot load any saved games from Part 1 when playing Part 2. But at the start of Part 2 you will be given everything you need (weapons, subroutines, etc.) so you don't have to start over from scratch.

Just finished the mod, I'm really impressed. Apart from a few areas I felt were cheap (namely that two seeker fight in part 1) and some areas I found repeated geometry the level design as a whole is very good. It's nice to see a meaty fan expansion for a game that doesn't have a large modding community (Thief, Half-Life, Deus Ex etc.) It was especially nice to have a reason to stay around in a world as unique as Tron's.

How's Part 3 going? Is it still happening? I would love to see some resolution to part 2's ending.

Sorry for the late reply! Thank you for the kind words. :)

User Error 3 is still happening, but some of our team (one of them is me) currently can't fully commit to working on UE3, and I'm currently working on the next version of the Killer App Mod. Once that's released, I'll focus my attention back on UE3. Hope to post some new previews and updates about UE3 here on ModDB, in 2019.

Just as a heads-up, the recent update to TRON 2.0 on Steam doesn't affect add-ons for the game, at all. The Unofficial Patch, Killer App Mod, User Error, and all the others still work.

The update on Steam is being referred to as a "Windows 10 compatibility" update, but this is a bit of a mischaracterization. TRON 2.0 has always worked on Windows 10.

No additional updates for Windows 10 have been made to the game itself, in any version (Retail, Steam, GOG). The issue was with an extra launcher added for the Steam release. It could prevent the game from starting on Windows 10. This is what was updated.

It's still being worked on by a team of three people (including myself). I'd say it's maybe halfway done? In my personal case: once Killer App Mod v1.2 is finished and released, I'll be able to focus all my energy on User Error 3.

This mod is really hard on insane especially on arena sequence, like you can die in 1-3 hit(depending of your hp max and bonuses from armor) and there is no heal recovering on most of course.

The person (Meatsack) who created User Error 1 has said that he purposely made it very challenging. For User Error 2, LDSO made the second part less difficult. Not easy, but not super tough either. (LDSO did not make UE1, but we distribute it and made the follow-up UE2. We're also making a User Error 3.)

If you don't mind cheating to get past the very difficult parts, you can hit the T key and type mpgod to turn on God mode. Once you're past a difficult section, you can hit T and type mpgod again to turn off God mode.

I know it's really late but because Killer App's new version has been released i tried to play again, and so this mod too but on the first level the guy on the first floor in front of some kind of computer doesn't want to talk to me(watched the walkthought of this level not the entire video though) he is supposed to give me a permission but there is no way i can get it.
Thank you.

Well, on the first level there's a program standing in front of a force field. If you talk to him, he advises you that there are two ways to get past it. One is to take a route through the ceiling in that room, the other is to talk to other programs and ask for help.

If you picked number 2 when you had the choice, other programs won't talk to you and you have to go through the ceiling. If you picked 1, that program you're talking about should talk to you the first time, and ask you to do something. Once you've collected all the permissions you need from Archive Bins (5 of them in total), you can go back and talk to him again. Then he'll give you what you need to get past the force field and move on.
