US Intervention (USI) is a modification based upon the Persian Gulf War in 1991 where about half a million US troops fought among other allied forces to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi forces. The mod was originally created for Battlefield Vietnam. We felt that Battlefield 2 would be a better alternative so we started building there. The first release came out in May 2006 with a lot of content. In the same month a hot fix was released after a new patch was created for BF2. Every new release is meant to build upon the previous release adding more vehicle, maps, game modes and overall environment. Version 2.0 is due out soon with 83 different weapons firing 33 types of ammo, 76 vehicles, and 18 levels to battle on. Realism is a key factor this mod follows in the creation of the content. With some real and possible events being portrayed in every map. The battles have been evened out to give both sides a chance of winning. Teamwork is the key.

Would that engine be a great substitute for the refractor?

Imho, no. Why? Movement feels clunky (to me). Not snappy like in BF2/3. BF4 also feels kinda ... heavy and sluggish, I dislike that

Those things can most likeley be tweaked in some way. With the refractor, all those things are hard coded. Crytek also released SDK tools specifically for modding, which is not the case for the refractor. The BF2 community might consider porting to another engine, since all the benefits outweight the hard work to get in on this engine.

I also would like to hear from the USI devs about how they experience this engine so far..

This was just a thought as porting over would not be so bad. Downside is all the models will still look as they are. No man power to upgrade them to next gen content. Our player models were re skinned BF2 models, so I can't use them. I have been using the free cryengine sdk for about a year now for other projects. As the only dev left, that may take some time. If enough players want this, I'll make it happen. A stand alone free to play USI experience :)
