This is a small mod I´m mainly testing out for myself. I really like the way the alien can have elements of randomness to its behaviour, and since you can allow it to have more or less freedom, in roaming, in taking breaks, more freedom should equal more unpredictability. Sadly that might also make encounters with the alien more haphazard and infrequent, so I plan on tinkering with the degrees of freedom given to the Alien for a while, to see if I can find a proper balance of not knowing when you´ll see the alien next and where, and still being reminded that it isn´t gone, but always present.
I am comfortable calling this the release of my mod, Unpredictable Alien. Some caveats: Obviously, the alien will still have some robust behaviour, I merely tinkered with the leash stalking ranges, the time limits of vent crawling and breaks, to hopefully allow the alien more freedom in choosing when and where it will show up to have a look-see. The differences between this version and the test version I uploaded earlier are small and subtle in the end.
This is a great mod, thanks a lot for your work :)
Finally, the game needed something like that! :) Good job!
This is very good mod! Thank you!
Hi,
I just want to make sure I did this correctly. Were there 18 items that get replaced with the new DATA folder?
Horribly late reply I apologize! But yes, 18 files in the zip file that replace the existing ones when you merge the folders and the prompt asks for your confirmation. (Replied still since some might have the same question.)
I still took the plunge on buying the game, but part of what kept me away for so long was the way the AI was constantly up in your grill. This mod's just what I need to really get into the game!
This is what I hated in the original game= The Alien was always too close to you.
I mean Sevastopol is a big station and the Alien could be anywhere.
Is it possible to make it so the Alien had total free roam on each map and would only go after where it heard noises? From both A.I and the player? So if you run a lot, or hit stuff making noise the chancer is high that it will come closer to your location?
This is the best mod for this game!! Thank you
I love this!
I'm playing through on Hard, and I hate that you can get pinned in a room for 5 minutes or more, just sitting around, because the Alien won't leave your specific corridor. It's tense, but it ends up being boring.
This is tense also, but it seems more fair.
I don't usually comment, but for this, I am. This mod definitely changed the game for me. It still felt terrifying, but not annoying like it was.
Thanks!
Which is harder? This MOD, or the Nightmare Mode?
Unable to download on any browser, Apparently it's malicious, No anti virus installed FYI.
Error with ModDB perhaps ?
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I think ModDB had some minor issue back in january and other downloads also had that malicious warning. Should be fine now!
Tried this mod along with no motion tracker mod, turn off the music and on nightmare and it's so much more terrifying and difficult. where once i could predict the alien quite easily, now i can't and he throws me off frequently. well done
I already start my third playthrough and i hear about this mod but it will work with curret saves or i must install it and start new game ?
Should work with current save just fine.
Yup, worked for me. In case anyone new to this mod in 2021 wants further confirmation....
Well, I know this game will be considered "old" to some people now. I just wanted to put my two cents in for anyone who is considering downloading the mod. So just a little background... I've played this game through now twice. The first time was on Normal "unmodded". My second playthrough was also on Normal but with this mod. Now I do know there are scripted events in this game where the Alien is gonna just flop down from a vent in front of you. There is nothing you can do about that. I can definitely tell though that this mod works. There were certain areas in my first playthrough without the mod. Where I was in, I will call a "free roam" area for the Alien. He was literally up my *** for too long and it was annoying or caused unavoidable deaths because he was so close. I didn't feel like I was cheating with this mod either. It just felt like the Alien was more random. Which actually made a second playthrough scarier. This mod doesn't make it so you can just run all over the place and make a bunch of noise. The Alien will still be close enough most of the time to hear you. I would even recommend that someone use this mod for their first playthrough. This game should be played more than once anyway. Each time you play your encounters with the Alien will be varied and this mod will make it even more enjoyable.
Just tried this mod on Steam with my MacBook Pro and it caused the game to crash immediately after loading a previously save. And, I did closed out of Steam before copying the mod to the folder per the instructions. I also tried creating a new game, which resulted in the game crashing all the same after loading.
Is it something I am doing or did the developers maybe update the game so this mod wouldn't work? Anyone else experiencing this, or does anyone have some direction for me??
Thank you!
Not sure if you'd still care at all or have figured it out by now, but in case anyone else also has the issue... The folders with changes for mod download here don't have all the files that go in those folders for the game. I had the same issue from just trying to replace the three folders for my game with the three folders I downloaded for this mod, and got the crash on load. You can't replace them with these folders since these are incomplete. They only have the files that have been changed. You just have to copy over the files in each folder to the corresponding game folders and let those files replace the same files in each of those game folders. Merge folder contents, not replace folders.
Is there any way to untether the alien without giving it all of the abilities from the start?
Not quite sure what you mean, I never tweaked anything that "gave" the alien abilities at the start of the game instead of later.
Thnx going to try now, is there anything you need to do with the modded XML map? or is that just there for backup/comparison/reference?
Yeah, I packed XMLs in just for comparison, that people can directly see how things are different, you don't need them if you just want to play, the BMLs are the files for the game to recognize :)
So this mod is not working at all for me. Does it only work on Windows, because I'm on Linux. Or did I do something wrong? (I replaced the DATA folder in the game's directory with the one for the mod)
