That's a nice thing.
The regular weapon team becomes useless when you unlock the "mobile" one who has more members and can become invisible

The idea here is to make the entrencheable squad more flavorful with new weapon choices. I was thinking about adding some plasma cannon upgrade to them as well to make them more juicy in the late game as well.

I still think the suppression team is somewhat useful in that they're immune to knockback and they only take up one squad cap after all. These teams have always functioned best as makeshift turrets, basically you build them when you don't have enough resources to invest in turrets.

Entrenched heavy weapon is still more tanky, so not quite useless

Edit: Yes, plasma cannons, please!

A mortar a day keeps the Xenos at bay.

I absolutely love to deploy artillery with the Imperial Guard: Basilisks, Medusa tanks... I just can't get enough!

What's that? Entrenchable Fire Support Teams will get mortars? Oh boy, you just made my day!

Youre making the Imperial guard look more and more like the good days of CoH and I am loving it

I would really like to see the griffon heavy mortar someday, i'm shocked that this unit hasn't been added after existing for so many years.

Like the medusa it could be upgraded with special munitions. Either melta shells for better use against vehicles or siege shells for better use against structures.

Oh no, you're removing the fire support teams? By Sigmar and the Emperor, NO! Suppression teams are terrible by comparison! You lose so much bang for buck between the two that there's no question that the suppression teams are infinitely better. If there MUST be only one, let it be the suppression team, with some kind of entrench like toggle ability that eliminates unit knockback/movement in exchange for some meaty defensive bonuses. It does the same thing without the awkwardness of the old HWT's and is kinder on our pop caps (yes, I realize fire support teams take up more pop, but they are worth infinitely more real firepower by comparison)

Calm down m8. Mortar is an upgradable weapon for Suppression team.

"This way we can consolidate the two heavy weapon teams down to just one." -Cosmocrat, above you, in the description of this image.

My comment was about that. Mortars themselves are cool addons for suppression teams, but not if they cost us a better unit.

I agree with that and instead i am now thinking about keeping the two heavy weapon squads but work out their difference instead of removing them alltogether.

The idea is the that support squad brings higher numbers of heavy weapons but the entrenched brings higher quality of weapons.

The entrenched squad will get the mortars exclusively while the support squad will keep the lasers, stubbers and bolters as their options.

On top of the mortars the entrenched squad will get additional gear and weapon choices. Plasma cannons are definetely confirmed.

Great idea, plus entrenched squads also get the defense bonus and immunity to knock-back as mentioned above. I have enjoyed the mechanic of both so far and this change will make them even more fun to use

I've been tweaking the mod to my own liking myself, and I do like the idea of entrenched squads having more variety. I dont use the full suppression squad myself so I went ahead and changed around Guardsmen squad leaders. All four leaders at once, one of each, gets me a Sgt, medic, heavy bolter and missile launcher. Never cared for Commissars and I left the standard bearer for the command squads. Makes the once quickly outclassed meat blobs have a bit more staying power later on.

I personally never saw much use of the suppression teams in general, they always seemed to draw too much fire with too little defense...being mere Guardsmen and all...

So rambling aside, maybe fold suppression units into regular squads?

In order to reduce unit redundancy I've just added mortars to the entrencheable heavy weapon squad, so you can keep shelling those pesky Xenos while looking awesome! This way we can consolidate the two heavy weapon teams down to just one.

Make sure to leave a comment and have a nice day!
